When Windows 7 was released in late 2009 both critics and consumers applauded the new version. Windows 7 provided a new desktop that most users found both simpler and more intuitive. The new operating system was faster both in performance and in the time it takes for the user to figure things out. The constant harassment and notifications for software and security updates that plagued Vista users were streamlined and improved. With additional support for the latest multi-media technology, Windows 7 proved to be a welcome addition.
