First of all, it was stable. The most stable Windows version ever. The dreaded blue screen of death wasn’t a regular occurrence for most people. Most people hated the Windows Me version and a replacement for that was welcomed. XP wasn’t a revolutionary operating system, but it was familiar and it worked. With the release of Windows 7 many people finally felt safe upgrading from XP.
