It was once thought of as strictly a social environment where people could share information about themselves and connect with others that share similar interests. Compared to high school by some, people get to choose “friends” and “groups” to connect with. It still is all of that, but like so many internet businesses eventually there has to be a way to monetize the concept. The presence of business and advertisers has grown considerably on social networking sites. Businesses are trying to figure out how to leverage the large populations of the sites, and the sites are trying to figure out how to get money out of business. The next few years should be very interesting.
