  • Engelberg: Titlis in Engelberg is one of the most beautiful winter sports region located in central Switzerland. It is famous for the facilities and sports opportunities it provides. It is a good area for skiing. For starters, teachers who would help you with lessons of skiing are available. The third Swiss Snow Walk is going to be conducted on March 6, 2010 in Engelberg. You can also enjoy a ride in horse carriage on snow.

Brunni is a sunny area in Engelberg, well known for hiking and skiing. Kids can have lots of fun in its Yeti Park, which has several games. The hamlet of Schwand, way side chapel and many other beautiful views, provide you fantastic opportunity for photography.

  • Thusis: You can enjoy a little piece of unique Swiss tradition if you visit Thusis on the 31st of December. A family trip to the place would be a great enjoyment and it will also help you know Switzerland a little bit better. Thusis is situated in the Graübunden area of Switzerland. Here children carry on an old tradition of carol singing that dates back several centuries. On the 31st of December, a show of the oldest carols takes place here in order to raise money for charitable causes. The speciality of this tradition is that the coins are wrapped in tissue papers and set them alight. Then they are thrown before the singers to collect.
  • Basel: Basel is a beautiful city that has been influenced by its location at the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France. You can enjoy the edge off the winter chill if you visit Basel which is already snow-clad by early December. Here you can discover the seasonal cheer, great gifts and delicious drinks. Christmas markets are a great winter tradition that can be found here. Craft workshops and candle making can be greatly enjoyed by children and the opportunity can also be used to stock up on gifts, toys and Christmas decorations

Austria


There are great winter sports resorts in Austria. There are annual winter sports events conducted in the Tirol region. There are around 176 schools which teach skiing and other sports in this region. Skiing is the most popular event. Snowboarding and other winter sports are also present. Apres ski (socializing that takes place after skiing) is very popular in Austria.


Japan

You can have different winter experiences in Japan depending upon the part where you are travelling to. Short winters with cold and sunny days and occasional snowfall is experienced in cities like Tokyo and Osaka, where as high levels of snowfall for many months of the year is experienced in the Northern parts of Japan.

There are places here which are good for skiing and snow boarding. Japan has around 500 snowboarding and skiing resorts. A sight that is not to be missed in Japan is the Sapporo Snow Festival in Hokkaido. It is one of the most popular winter events in Japan. During winter season many events are held across the country that creates breath taking views. For the same reason many tourists are drawn to the country just like during the warmer seasons.

Sport Locations in France


Winter is a good time of the year to visit France as there are fewer crowds during the time and you can hit the best retail sales as it is the least popular season for tourism. With the first snowfalls that are occurring in this place, lots of tourists come here to enjoy their holidays in winter. There are several winter sports like downhill skiing, telemark skiing, dog sledding, snowboarding, snowblading, snow shoeing, cross country skiing that takes place in these regions. In the French Alps, the three Valleys consist of eight resorts that are linked to each other through ski lifts and ski runs. This is the largest ski area in the world and a fantastic area to spend your vacation. Courcheval, Meribel, Val d'Isere, Morzine, Avoriaz are some of the well known resorts for their skiing and night life. If you are looking for less expensive and quieter places, you can go for Chatel and La Chapelle d’Abondance in the Abondance Valley, which is a part of the vast Portes du Soleil ski region. It is also a wonderful time to visit the thermal spas of the place..
