1. America's Thrift Stores

When you visit an America's Thrift Stores location, you never know what you might find. The organization purchases new and used merchandise from department stores and other charitable organizations and also accepts donated items from individuals and groups. These items are offered for sale to the public at low prices.

There are a number of America's Thrift Stores located throughout the southeast, with locations in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, and Tennessee. The Mobile, AL branch is located at 5441 Highway 90 in the part of town known as Tillman's Corner.

America's Thrift Stores, Inc. is a nonprofit faith-based organization that raises money to support The American Family Foundation, Teen Challenge, King's Home, and other ministries designed to help individuals and families who are in need of assistance.

2. Goodwill Easter Seals

Shopping at a Goodwill Easter Seals thrift store is always a treat. The stores are stocked with donated inventory, so available items vary frequently and are priced very reasonably. As with all thrift shore shopping trips, there's no telling what you might find. The stores are well maintained, so you'll be able to enjoy flipping through the racks and browsing the shelves looking for hidden treasure.

Goodwill Easter Seals of the Gulf Coast operates a number of thrift stores in Mobile and Baldwin Counties of Alabama. Mobile, AL store locations include: 266 Azalea Road, 2423 Schillinger Road South, and 5363 D Highway 90 West. There are also stores in the surrounding communities of Bay Minette, Citronelle, Daphne, Fairhope, and Semmes.

Money raised through these stores goes toward helping individuals in the Gulf Coast Region who are living with disabilities. Funds raised help support early intervention services for children who have disabilities, literacy and education programs, parenting skills education, day care services, employment assistance, help for senior citizens, and more.

3. Habit for Humanity ReStore

If you're looking for a way to manage your home improvement projects without allowing your budget to get out of control, be sure to check the Habitat for Humanity ReStore to see if you may be able to find the items you need. This unique thrift store accepts donations of surplus or previously used building materials, furniture, and home d├ęcor items from individuals and organizations. Funds raised go to support Habitat for Humanity projects in the local community.

Shopping here is a great way to help promote Habitat's work while saving money and keeping perfectly usable home improvement items from ending up in landfills. The Mobile, AL Habitat ReStore is located in the west part of town, at 4128 Government Boulevard. There is also a Baldwin County ReStore, which is located the town of Summerdale at 108 State Highway 59 South.

4. Seconds on Sage

Operated by the Junior League of Mobile, Seconds on Sage carries an ever-changing selection of donated apparel, household goods, toys, furniture, jewelry, and more. Most merchandise offered for sale is donated by the organization's members. Some large ticket items are offered for sale on a consignment basis. Funds raised to go help support the organization's charitable activities within Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Seconds on Sage is located in midtown Mobile at 85 North Sage Avenue.

I am a former employee of America's Thrift Store and they are actually a profit based organization which is why by tax law they have to charge sales tax. They only donate 75% of their profits to the charities listed.

Hi MG, you and Money Glitch have the same initials so I'm going to have start calling her $G. Anyway, thanks for the review, now if I only lived in Alabama...

We have some great thrifts and a Habitat for Humanity ReStore so I help our citizens recycle as I save money. I think it is the possibility of treasure that fuels my interest however. =:)
