A truly enjoyable city break in London – for Christmas and the New Year

Updated on December 17, 2013

Celebrate the holiday season in style in London, and experience a magical Christmas and New Year that will stay with you forever. London is full of fun and festive things to do, so to make sure you have an enjoyable trip, read on to check out our handy tips on getting the most out of the city.

Getting around

London might be big but don’t let that daunt you. With an excellent public network system, it’s easy to get around the city, wherever you want to go. The underground Tube system covers the whole of the city, including both central London and the outskirts, and provides an affordable and easy to navigate way of travelling. If you prefer to stay above ground, buses and taxis are very common, and can be easily found across London. They make a great alternative mode of travel, particularly as the Tube can get busy over the holiday period.

Where to stay

With a great range of hotels and apartments available across the city, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding accommodation. There are many different hotels around catering to all budgets and tastes – whether you’re looking for a low cost, budget friendly bed and breakfast, or a luxuriously indulgent historic boutique hotel – you’ll find what you are looking for.

Entertainment for all the family

From stage shows and pop concerts, to museums, galleries and world class shopping, nightclubs, bars and more, there is plenty of things to enjoy across London. As the capital of entertainment, there’s always something on every night. Why not discover a musical on the West End or treat yourself to some Christmas shopping on Oxford Street? If you fancy something a little quieter, the many art galleries and museums in the city provide a perfect opportunity to soak up some culture at your own pace. Plus, as many of London’s museums and galleries have free entry, this is a great low-cost way to keep yourselves occupied!

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, why not indulge in Harrods’ food hall, with a tantalising choice of cakes, pastries, chocolates and so much more, including the famed Parisian patisserie, Ladurée. With something to tempt you at every corner, London is a foodie’s dream.
