The Adventure Begins

Only For The Brave or Crazy!!

When i was a young boy my Grandpa used to take me to a place near where i lived called Turpins Falls.  I used to make my way down to the bottom of the falls via a very steep path and swim in the calm waters of the pond.  I would look up and see kids much older than i, skylarking and jumping off these falls. Now jumping off these fall is no easy feat and when i was a teenager one of your measures of bravery was if you could jump of the falls.  Even more courageous was if you could jump off the cliff to the left of the falls.  Estimates of the height of the falls is about twenty meters whereas the cliff height is estimated at about thirtymeters.  I hope you enjoy enjoy this hub, part of my adventure world, Turpins Falls really is a magical place.

Summer Fun

On any given day in summer when i was a teenager in the ninties there might be over fifty people swimming at Turpins Falls.  These days you rarely find people swimming there, but i think that has got something to do with all the warning signs posted up around the place.  There have been a few deaths at the falls and many injuries.  In my Grandpa day people used to have competitions on how far they could ride a bike over the cliff.  Jumping off the cliff is a real gut wrenching experience.  You seem to hang in the air for an eternity and when you finally hit the water it feels like concrete.  God help you if you miss time your jump and face plant or land on your back.  Many a rib has been broken by peoples miss timed jump.

One Crazy Person

That Guy Was Nuts

I have seen some crazy things happen out at Turpin's Falls but that guy going off the falls in a kayak was pretty unbelievable.  The torrent of water that was flowing over the falls was very powerful and this guys braved it like a true champion.  Another feat i saw was a guy do a backflip off the cliff.  So if you are ever in Victoria, Australia make your way to Turpins Falls and see if you have the courage to do a might jump.  If you can you will be in very good company indeed.
