Holland is located in the North Western Europe. The name of the country Nederland in Dutch means Low country. Around 25% of this country area is below the sea level. Half of the land is only 1 meter above the sea level. Even some areas located below the sea level were created by humans.

Belgium and Germany border Netherlands.

The Hague is the seat of government, while Amsterdam is the capital city.

I visited Holland years ago and booked some site-seeing tours. The guide told us that the water was pumped out of huge areas and cities were built instead.

Holland is a country with lots of mills, tulips, dykes, and canals. The national sport is football.

The Dutch people eat 14 kg of cheese per year on average.

Holland has the largest flower garden in the world with circa 8,000,000 flowers planted every year. It is known as the Garden of Europe and it is located in the south part of Holland, in Lisse city.

The country has more than 10,000 km of cycle tracks and lots of bicycle stands everywhere. Every dutch person possesses one or two bikes.

The Dutch people are the world's second-biggest coffee drinkers.

The Dutch people have been wearing wooden shoes, or clogs, called “Klompen” in the past. . They became symbols of the Dutch culture in the last years.

The Duch people are the tallest in the world. Men are 1.80 cm tall on average, while women are 1.70 cm on average.

Capital city of Holland is Amsterdam, located in the Western part of the country. It is one of the most important ports. This is the largest city in Holland with a population of approximately 800,000 people. Amsterdam is the city where large institutions are located such as ING, Phillips, ABN AMRO, to name a few. The quality of life in Amsterdam is ranked as 13th globally.

Amsterdam has its own Coat of Arms.

This city is visited by aproximately 3,6 million visitors a year from all over the world. Tha main turist attractions are old buildings, museums, churches and the famous Dam Square.

Amsterdam alone has 42 museums and 1,280 bridges. This city is build on wooden poles because the soil has a big quantity of clay.

Amsterdam is one of the top 20 safest cities in the world. The crime rate is very low, lower than many popular European capital cities.
