History

The Atlantis Resort and Casino was the brainchild of Sol Kerzner. The Atlantis Resort and Casino was constructed on the former Paradise Island Resort & Casino site. After it had filed for bankruptcy in 1993, Kerzner purchased this complex. At the time, the site consisted only of three hotels in need of significant repairs, a golf course, and acres of undeveloped beachfront property.

Atlantis opened after a massive construction project. This distinctive destination contains over 20 million gallons of fresh and saltwater lagoons, pools and habitats. Atlantis may be a jewel, but it is certainly not a hidden one.

The increase in occupancy revitalized the tourism industry of The Bahamas. Kerzner was only beginning to realize the potential for Paradise Island. It has since increased in size and grandeur since its opening.

Accommodations

Atlantis offers different levels of accommodations in well-furnished buildings. The ambiance is five stars quality, no matter what level one chooses. Full kitchen facilities and condo-style living are located in one area as an alternative for large families and for those who seek the comfort of home in a smoke-free environment.

Water Activities

Plunge into the refreshing waters of the pools and the ocean; the experience is as good as it gets. Deck chairs are free of charge and abundant. Don’t worry about getting too wet; staff members provide visitors with a new towel after their swim.

The whole family can enjoy intense thrills with the on-site water park, Aquaventure, situated right on the property. Some of the water adventures are a 60-foot-high tower with four water slides and a black hole slide that drops daredevils down 55 feet, other along with wild water rides.

Seekers of a more relaxing water adventure can enjoy a relaxing journey through the lazy river ride. Of course, don’t forget to take advantage of the clear tri-colored water. Set your feet in the sand or stroll along the promenades, taking in a snack at the concession stands. At dusk, movies are ready to be shown at the poolside, complete with popcorn service.

The Mandara Spa can be found in many resorts throughout the world. The Spa is known for utilizing Elemis products, which incidentally originates from the Bahamas.
