Bend of the River Cabins Dahlonega
Dahlonega is around a one or one and a half hour drive from Atlanta and is located at the north end of Georgia 400. Dahlonega was the site of the first major gold Rush in the USA way before the California gold rush began. Dahlonega is part of the Appalachian Mountain range. This hub recommends a place of stay in Dahlonega. The place is Bend of River Cabins and Chalets. They have a small strip of forest land and amidst them are built around 6 log cabins. Some sleep 4 and some sleep 12 or more. The cabins are placed far away from each other so they do not disturb each other. The owners/care takers are very cordial and friendly.
The Woodland Cabin we stayed in was very quaint and cozy sleeping 4. It is a rustic A-Frame cabin in the middle of 2 acres of beautiful woods, completely private. It also has an attached sit out area (screened room off deck) with a barbeque stove, furniture and a hammock. During colder nights you can light a wood fire right in front of your cabin. The cabin provides the following amenities, kitchen appliances and utensils, microwave, toaster, coffee pot, creamer, sugar, salt, pepper and paper products, linens, towels, toiletries and hair dryers, TV / VCR and telephones, gas grill, heat, air conditioning, ceiling fans, fireplaces, washer and dryer.
They also have a nice collection of classic games like Monopoly and Scrabble and a huge collection of wonderful books and magazines in every room (including the toilets!).
The Chestatee River flows right behind the cabin. You can walk down to the river bank (It is a little steep though, but can be reached). There is a hammock, a beautiful chair and an old style wood grill right by the river side. Close to the river and inside you might find some gleaming rocks; you might want to pick them (they are raw gold ore). Don’t get too excited though, they might not help you in your early retirement plans. These ores only have traces and might not be worth anything but a fond memory and your little kid’s excitement.
Things to do: Fishing, Tubing, River Walk, Trekking, Wine Tasting.
Places to Visit: Wineries, Helen – Alphine village and Gold Digging/Gold mining museum.
Type of Place: Family Vacation, Group holiday or a much needed break.
Best time to visit: May-September
It really feels like a home away from home as they claim it to be. If you are looking for a great place to spend this summer holiday, this place gets my recommendation.
