Fort Garry Hotel

The Fort Garry Hotel was built in 1913 and is a historic building in itself. It has a grandeur about it with their famous Sunday brunch. It is not a surprise that many will choose this location for their wedding or conferences. For my Winnipeg weekend trip, I packaged up the hotel stay with the Sunday brunch. The Fort Garry Hotel is conveniently located downtown Winnipeg and within walking distance of many Winnipeg attractions.

Sunday Brunch is an event in itself with the main lobby transformed into the best brunch ever. The tables are laid out elegantly and they have fresh breakfast stations. The choices are endless and I wish I had taken more photos of the Sunday Brunch. Dress up, take your time, and enjoy the fine dining on a Sunday morning.

The Forks National Historic Park

The Forks National Historic Park and Market are within walking distance of the Fort Garry Hotel. You will pass by the railway station to the Forks. They have a market with a lot of unique shops, boutiques, and a fresh food market to explore. When you go outside, you can take a river boat tour (which I highly recommend) and walk along the river and explore the Forks National Historic Park. They have outdoor historic art work to describe the history of the area. The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is also located here. This place has so much to offer inside and outside.

River Boat Tours

The River Boat Tours depart regularly from The Forks Historic Park is worth the tour to learn not only about the history of different attractions in Winnipeg, and also be able to take wonderful river boat scenery photos. Be sure to have your camera ready. It was a great way to see the attractions before we walked there to take a close up look.

Saint Boniface Cathedral

From the Forks National Historic Park, you can walk across the bridge to cross the river and voila you have arrived in the French Quarter. Walking along you will easily find Saint Boniface Cathedral. Even though the cathedral was destroyed in a fire, the walls that remain still show the architecture from when it was built in 1908. I was still amazed by the history and beautiful architecture at Saint Boniface Cathedral. I did a self guided tour of the cathedral but they do have guided walking tours of the area if you are more organized and would like a formal tour.

Manitoba Legislature Building

When you are in a city's capital, it is a MUST to go visit the Manitoba Legislature Building especially when it is within walking distance of the Fort Gary Hotel. This is a popular spot for wedding photography and you can go inside to learn more about the Winnipeg government.

Hermanos Restaurant and Bar

Hermanos Restaurant and Wine Bar is an Argentinian inspired South American cuisine restaurant. The food is absolutely amazing and has had rave reviews. Walking to Hermanos you will go through the financial district and can explore a bit of downtown Winnipeg. Hermanos is a quaint restaurant where I splurged on fine wine and dining.

Winnipeg Weekend

These were some of my highlights from my weekend in Winnipeg, Manitoba. There are many other sites and attractions especially if you are renting a car. I prefer walking and found it very easy to enjoy my self guided walking tour and being able to see some major attractions in a short period of time.
