Ports to Explore

There are various ports that you will visit, should you decide to venture on one of these Celebrity Cruises. Here are just a few ports you might want to visit when you journey to one of the most beautiful places in the world

Shanghai City Skyline
Shanghai City Skyline

Shanghai is the largest city in China with breathtaking views of skyscrapers and great places to shop. If you have time to visit some sites, many locals recommend the Bund, which provides great shopping on the water and an incredible view of the skyline. Yuyuan Gardens is also highly recommended. It has a beautiful garden which costs a small admission fee but is definitely worth it. This also offers shopping and markets. Shanghai is a beautiful view straight from the ship, but we recommend exploring a little bit.

Kiyomizu-Dera Temple in Kyoto, Japan
Kiyomizu-Dera Temple in Kyoto, Japan

Kyoto is a very historic place. Nicknamed the City of Ten-Thousand Shrines, it is the former imperial capital of Japan. It was for over 1000 years the capital of Japan and is located on the island of Honshu. Some historic places to visit are the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto. This beautiful monument consists of 17 temples, shrines and Nijo Castle. As far as dining is concerned, dishes in Kyoto are prepared meticulously due to the fact that it is the former capital. Dishes were prepared with such detail then, that the tradition has carried over, post-capital era. You can also visit the Maizuru Port Centre and purchase fresh fish caught right there in the bay.

Tokyo Cityscape
Tokyo Cityscape

Tokyo is the most populated city in the entire world! With over 35,000,000 residents in the metropolitan area, it's popular for a reason and if your cruise stops in Tokyo, you need to go explore it! Tokyo is very technology driven and in most cases looks like a city of the future. When you're there be sure to visit Shibuya. It is the most pictured place in Tokyo and is home to many tourists. Tokyo National Museum is thought to be the best museum in all of Japan, if you're into that kind of thing and is located fairly close to port. There is an extremely large underground shopping area located at Tokyo Station which offers literally everything you can imagine! You will be able to find some of the most bizarre and delicious foods in Tokyo, including full meals served in vending machine restaurants. One thing is for sure and that is you'll be sure to find unique places to go and bizarre things to see!

I hadn't even considered Celebrity Cruises - it seems such a long way off. Maybe this is one of the ones I'll think about taking one day perhaps when I'm married and have a lady to take with me. As always, great travel hub, AtlasSue!
