Flying From Vancouver To Japan | Finding Cheap Flights From Canada To Japan

Updated on September 10, 2012

Travelers flying from Vancouver to Japan are in for a pleasant surprise. The Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is known as the Gateway to the Pacific and it has the most flights from Canada to Japan. The airlines with the most non-stop flights are Air Canada, All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines.

This is a very popular route and online travel booking companies such as Low Fares, Mobissimo or Travelocity often advertise cheap flights to Japan's Narita International Airport. The best months to fly for the cheapest airfare to Japan are in January and February. Often the prices are at least half of the airfare in July or August.

Searching For Cheap Flights

Many of the travel search engines have an email feature to alert you when there is a seat sale or when cheap airline tickets come up for your travel destination. The email alerts are great while you are searching for the best prices on airline tickets, but once you have booked your trip you will want to unsubscribe. A good idea is to use a secondary email address when submitting your email information. Low Fares is a travel search engine that has this email alert feature. TravelZoo is another reliable service, that will often search for other travel related deals such as hotel rooms or activities in addition to airfare deals.

About the Narita International Airport

Narita is the second busiest airport in Japan. The Tokyo International Airport is the busiest airport, however it is Narita that handles the international traffic coming from the Americas. Narita handles over 35 million passengers per year. It is the main hub for international flights for Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways.

The airport is closest to the city of Narita. It is 7 kilometers from Narita and 57 kilometers from Tokyo. The long distance from Tokyo is often a complaint from travelers arriving at NRT. However, a new rapid rail link was opened in 2010 by the Narita Rapid Railway. The high speed rail link will reduce travel time to Tokyo by 20 minutes. Travel by car takes longer than one hour and traffic is heavy.

About the Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

The Vancouver International Airport is Western Canada's busiest airport and the 2nd busiest airport in Canada. In 2010, the airport won the distinction of Best North American Airport (Skytrax Award). The airport is approximately 12 kilometers from the City Center. The fastest way to get to or from the airport is by the “Canada Line” rapid rail link which was also completed in 2010.

In addition to the Canada Line, there are taxis and limos available immediately upon exiting the terminal and all of the major Canadian car rental companies are at the airport.
