City of Atlanta: Stone Mountain, Underground Atlanta, World of Coca-Cola, and Georgia Aquarium...

City of Atlanta and its Attractions...

The unofficial capital of the southeastern United States is the city of Atlanta… It’s by far the largest city in the region, with a bustling economy and job market, and a fantastic place to visit with many different and varied attractions. The city of Atlanta held the 1996 Olympic Games which were very successful, and highlighted the abilities and can do attitude of the whole southeast region, including the Tennessee Ocoee River which held the kayaking and white water events.

There are many interesting and fascinating attractions in the Atlanta area, including the Stone Mountain Park, Zoo Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium, the Coca-Cola Exhibit, the Lake Lanier Islands just to the north, and nearby Helen GA which is home to one of the greatest Oktoberfest celebrations in the country. The 1996 Olympics were the first time ever that these events were held in the southeastern U.S., and it was a great introduction to the world for this area. Coca-Cola was invented in the city of Atlanta many years ago, and to showcase its history and products they have developed a fantastic museum and tasting center, where you can taste many of the different kinds of products that they have sold or presently sell around the world.

The World of Coca-Cola exhibit., and the Georgia Aquaruim in the City of Atlanta..

For years, the World of Coca-Cola exhibit had a location downtown that catered to diehard fans of the product, but was really in serious need of a good overhaul and update. In the last few years, they have completed a new building and location for the totally upgraded exhibit, and now it’s one of the must see attractions in the city of Atlanta area that you shouldn’t miss. They have a 3-D movie that will amaze you, and the “Bottle Works” where you will learn how the product is actually processed and bottled for consumption, and of course the world famous Coca-Cola Polar Bear!

One of the more recent additions to the downtown Atlanta attractions is the Georgia Aquarium, which is the largest aquarium in the world! This was a huge endeavor to create and build, and much of it was done in the private sector with big Atlanta businessmen footing the bill. One of the more powerful exhibits at the aquarium is the Whale Sharks, which are the largest sharks in the world. These huge animals were carefully shipped all the way from Taiwan by plane in specially built containers, and then brought through the streets of Atlanta during the night as to avoid the worst of the traffic, and then placed into their immensely large tank at the Georgia Aquarium built for them. When you actually see the exhibit and walk through the glass enclosed structure overhead, you are awed by the incredible size of the whale sharks swimming gracefully overhead! The Georgia Aquarium is a definite do not miss attraction in the city of Atlanta area, you’ll be glad you saw it!

Olympic Park and Underground Atlanta in the City of Atlanta...

There is also the famous Olympic Park which is located downtown in the city of Atlanta, and is a very nice place to walk around and soak in some of the incredible attractions located nearby. In the wintertime, this area is host to a very popular outdoor ice skating rink and it can get quite busy! This is also the same park where they had the Olympic bombing that was all over the news at the time.

Underground Atlanta is also very popular, and it’s basically an underground marketplace where you can experience and purchase many goods from some of the local populace… Having said that, it’s also an area to be very wary in… The first time I was in the city of Atlanta as a tourist, I visited this area during the famous “Peach Drop” for New Years Eve, and I soon realized that I was starting to stand out like a sore thumb… For those who have ever been, you probably know what I mean, and there were street beggars and connivers everywhere in Underground Atlanta trying different ways to get your money from you… Every New Years Eve, there are always incidents of hoodlums shooting guns off and innocent bystanders getting shot. It seems to be the nature of the city, and today I only go downtown during daylight hours if I can avoid it…

Stone Mountain Georgia, Near the City of Atlanta...

One fantastic must see attraction in the city of Atlanta area is Stone Mountain and its famous park in the northeast corner just north of the city. Stone Mountain is incredible for the many different attractions and fun that you can have there, including a riverboat ride, World War II Duck Tours, picnic areas, biking and hiking trails, a sky lift to the top of the mountain, an Antebellum mansion, a hotel, and the fantastic Stone Mountain Park. To really see everything inside the Stone Mountain GA Park will take you a few days, so plan your trip wisely! There is a hiking trail to the top of the mountain, but it is well worth it as the view is extraordinary… The park area is an extra fee, but has many movies, shows, and exhibits inside; including a train ride that takes you around the whole mountain. They have a special Christmas show at the park during approximately 2 months of the year, and then a “snow park” where they create artificial snow for sliding and sledding and other fun for the 2 coldest months… Definitely an attraction not to be missed!

So come to the Atlanta area, there is plenty to do and see here… Just remember to take precautions when visiting the downtown area, the city of Atlanta tries to protect visitors through extra police on duty, but it’s always wise to protect yourself and not place yourself in harm’s way if possible… Enjoy yourself, and have fun!

Nice Place & Nice Ideas,

The "Georgia Aquarium" sounds like a fun, refreshing, and educational experience for kids and adults alike.

Nice Job capturing some of the must see tourist attractions.
