Melaka's Food Guide: Nyonya Laksa & Cendol
What and Where To Eat
The first time that you arrive to a new place, 2 questions will be playing in mind: Where and what to eat? Some people would choose to find the same food as what they eat in their state or country. I , myself, would choose rather to be adventurous and try new food and cuisine. That's the purpose of traveling, isn't it :) To try new things..
In Melaka, the food ranges from fine dining, rustic, chic, ordinarily simple food and to the 'hawkishly' spicy and hot food with unique flavors.
Where to find or locate the best food around Melaka? The best hidden places are mostly known by the locals. So let me guide your nostrils and legs to these eating places where you can enjoy and satisfy your palates. Come let us go to the restaurants, food courts, hawker centres, street stalls and to the food peddlers cart.
P/S: There's a choice of Nyonya, Malay, Chinese, Indian, Mamak and Portuguese cuisines to choose from and most restaurants are charging reasonable and affordable prices!
First stop: Let's have a look at Nyonya cuisine.
Melaka Nyonya Laksa might look odd to some people as it is enriched with various spices and rich with coconut milk but without the curry powder (which is the main ingredient in making a curry laksa). The Nyonya Laksa is served with fish cake, shrimps, bean sprouts, and topped with cucumber, laksa leaves and sliced ginger buds.
Where to find the best Nyonya Laksa in town?
a) Seri Nyonya Restaurant (Equatorial of course :D)
b) Restaurant Nyonya Makko in Melaka Raya
c) Banya Restaurant Melaka Raya
d) Donald and Lily's : This is a new addition to the above list.More and more friends are talking about this place.
Donald & Lily’s Corner is located at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (Heeren Street), within walking distance from Jonker Street and the reddish Dutch Square. However, the location of Donald & Lily’s Corner is less noticeable. You must walk to the back of Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, or go to Kota Laksamana car park, and you can find Donald & Lily’s Corner

Nyonya Cendol : A Word Of Advise
The same as every well known favorite food outlet in Melaka, do be aware of the limited parking spaces, small lanes and long queues. The small shops preserved the authenticity of their brand by not expanding themselves or their shops. The area is still the same even after many generations.
