Daytona Beach FL: White Sand Beaches, Famous Boardwalk, and Daytona 500 Raceway...

Updated on March 26, 2011

Daytona Beach and It's Famous White Sands...

One of the most famous beaches in the world in Daytona Beach FL, with the smooth white sands that allow for driving right on the beach. In fact, this is the main feature of the beach that has made it so popular, because soon after the invention of motor vehicles they started holding races right at the water’s edge because it was so flat and smooth, perfect for racing! The beach is also centrally located in the state of Florida, less than an hour away from Orlando FL. It is very popular with tourists and locals alike, and people flock there from all over the U.S.

There are several miles of Daytona Beach FL available for driving up and down the coast, which is great for cruising and checking out the scenery! You really don’t need a four wheel drive vehicle since the sand is not very deep, but there are places that you will have to watch out for when parking. The beach can get very crowded later in the day, and the best plan is probably to show up early when very few people are there, and make a day of it. The beach is fantastic early in the morning, and as the day wears on you will get to view all the passing cars from a stationary position. If you are expecting friends, then they can find you easy.

Daytona Beach FL Boardwalk...

Regulars who go to Daytona Beach FL will usually pick one location that they always park at and then plan their days from there. The waves are constantly coming in and it tends to make the water very murky. It’s great for beginner surfers, but it can make swimming a little rough. You can stand in waist deep water and not be able to see your feet, unlike the incredibly clear waters of the Florida Keys, Key West, and the Gulf of Mexico. Beaches such as Clearwater Beach near the city of Tampa got the name for a reason.

Daytona Beach FL is still an incredibly popular beach, and it has a boardwalk with many fun activities to spend a few hours with, if you need a break from the sun and water. Video games, arcades, great seafood restaurants, go cart racing, carnival rides, and other attractions are available right at the boardwalk or very close. Daytona Beach FL is also a very popular location for spring break and the many thousands of college students that swarm the place for a few weeks in March and April every year. It’s a great money earner for the local hotels, motels, and condo rentals, and of course the restaurants and bars love the students also! It can be extremely crowded during that time period, so if you like it a little less crazy and more controlled, try to avoid Daytona Beach at that time of year.

Daytona Beach Speedway...

Surfing is popular closer to the piers and boardwalks at Daytona Beach FL, because of the way the waves roll in at those areas. Again, the water is very murky all along the coast and you don’t really know what is just under the water. Closer to the piers and boardwalks fish tend to congregate and hang out, including the many sharks that feed on these fish. There are always stories about surfers or other swimmers getting accidentally bitten by a shark, but it’s usually in those areas. These shark bites are most often not fatal, as the sharks are much smaller than the Great Whites you will find on the Pacific Coast, but still no one wants to get bitten no matter what the size!

Daytona Beach FL is also famous for the Daytona Speedway, where they hold the Daytona 500 race every spring. It’s probably the most famous NASCAR race in the world, and all the drivers work hard to win it. The Daytona Speedway also has a fantastic museum that you can check out if you are a really big NASCAR fan, and also a great racing school where you can take laps around the famous track, either by yourself or with a seasoned driver. It’s very exciting, and highly recommended to all! I hope you have a little more information about the famous Daytona Beach FL area… Plan a visit soon, you’ll love it!
