Have You Ever Been To Destin Florida

Destin Florida is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The white sand is just so magical and captivating. When you walk on the sand there the sand is so fine and packed that it squeaks when you walk on it. Destin is located on what is called the Emerald Coast. The Emerald Coast of Florida is well known for its white sand beaches and emerald green waters.

Millions of people a year head for the Emerald Coast for various reasons but it is the beautiful beaches that draw people to the area in huge numbers. But don't get discouraged if you don't like crowds because there are just simply miles and miles of beautiful white sandy beaches to enjoy here. And other than holiday weekends you'll find the beaches of this area with far fewer people than you would think.

Fishing has always been an important part of Destin Florida and it remains so today. You can take half day or full day fishing trips out of Destin and the fishing is world class. If you want to plan your fishing trip in advance you can check out the two charter companies below offering fishing trips out of Destin Florida.

Deep Sea Fishing

Adventure Charters, 850-654-4070

Pelican Adventures, 210-F Hwy 98 East, 850-650-3825

Call either company and they will be glad to help you. They can also provide you with lots of local travel information about the Emerald Coast area. Below is a great video that shows the kind of fishing you can expect at Destin.

Dolphin Cruises

If you go to Destin Florida and have children you just have to take them on a dolphin cruise. There is just something so magical about dolphins and sometimes it seems like the dolphins in the Destin area are good will ambassadors for the Emerald Coast. They put on a show you won't soon forget so be sure to bring a good camera with you.

Dolphin Cruise at the Harborwalk Marinna offers various types of cruises including a dolphin tour but be sure to call ahead and make reservations. 850-837-7741

Moody's also offers cruises and you can reach them at. 850-837-1293

Any dolphin cruise you can go on will be wonderful. Anytime you can see dolphins in the wild you'll have a wonderful time. So be sure to have that camera with you.

Lodging

There are many motels in the Destin area but two of them that are in the budget range that I would recommend to everyone are Motel 6 and their phone number is 850-837-0007 and The Sleep Inn and their phone number is 850-654-7022. When I travel I don't see any reason to pay out all my money for a place to stay and I have stayed at both of these budget motels and both places are very clean and the staff is very friendly. Both places have information brochures in their lobbies that you can check out and choose what to see and do while you're in the Destin area.

Be sure that you shop around when it comes to deep sea fishing trips. Always ask what is included and what's not included. Ask if you have to pay if you don't catch any fish. Check to see if meals, drinks, and fish cleaning are included in the price or will you be charged for each extra,

Things To Take With You To Destin Florida

1. Soft Drinks, they can be really high here so bring some with you.

2. Beach Chairs, Beach Towels, Umbrellas.

3. A Good Camera And Several Extra Memory Cards.

4. Coloring Books, Activity Books And Crayons For Small Children.

5. Sun Tanning Lotion and Sun Screen.

6. Cigarettes If You Smoke, Again They Are Expensive Here.

7. Pack A Box Of Snacks To Bring With You.

I don't know where you live but I live part time in Florida and part time in North Carolina and soft drinks and cigarettes can be much higher in Florida than in North Carolina. In a tourist town like Destin items like beach chairs, beach towels, tanning lotion and sunscreen products can be double or triple the price they would be back home so bring it with you and save. If your driving down to Destin you can easily bring beach chairs with you. However if your flying down you may not be able to bring your beach chairs with you. We always take as much of our needed items with us as we can. This can and does really save you money.

We always pack a big box of everyone's favorite snacks and we take it along to have when we or the children get hungry. This will also save you money. As will having coloring books, activity books, and crayons along with you. Especially if you have small children.

More Information About Destin Florida

Destin got its name from a man named Leonard Destin and he came to the area from New London, Connecticut sometime between 1845 - 1850. Destin built a New England style home at the location of the Monroe Point Military Reservation. Captain Destin and his descendents fished the area for decades.

It was not until the 1970s that condos were first built in the Destin area and the city was incorporated in 1984. The area is growing really fast but a lot of the people are only there for a week or two each year. As of the 2000 census there were just a few people short of 12,000 people living in Destin Florida. Their main income is tourism and the entire Emerald Coast area is a popular tourist destination.

Flea Market Shopping

Ft Walton Beach has one of the best Flea Markets in the area. You will find it located at 125 Eglin Pkwy SE and their phone number is (850) 301-3729 . They are open 7 days a week during day light hours and you'll find some great bargains there. You can spend hours exploring and shopping there and the thing I like about it is that no matter how often you go you always find something new every time you go. Be sure that while your there that you check out the Waterfront Rescue Mission Bargain Center. I've found some really great items there at low prices. You will find all kinds of other thrift shops and antique shops in the area. Be aware that a lot of these people will negotiate with you on prices.Always try to get a lower price where you can. I almost never pay the first price I'm told for something. If they say the price is $50.00 I say well I'll tell you what I've just got $40.00 left that I can spend and I pull out two twenty's. Most of the time I get the item. If not I go back the next time I'm in the area and if the items still there I try again. Ft Walton Beach is very near to Destin. Its to the west of Destin on highway 98.

The World's Best Seafood

You'll find some of if not the best seafood in the world at restaurants and cafes in the Destin area. If I had to pick three favorites they would be.

1. The Boathouse Oyster Bar, 850-837-3645

2. Captain Dave's On The Beach, 850-837-6357

3. The Ocean Club Restaurant, 850-267-3666

All three places have wonderful fresh seafood at low prices. The grouper at the Ocean Club is just simply wonderful. And while your in the area ask the locals where they go to eat. Places open and close often and the locals always know where the best place to eat is. You should also ask where to eat breakfast. People living in the area can give you the best information especially when it comes to good local food served at low prices.

The Best Time To Find Good Shells

You want to take a bucket or pail and go to the beach just as the sun is coming up. This is the best time of the day to find shells. Walk along the water line and watch for shells and sand dollars where the water line is. Don't take shells that have something living in them. And don't dig up live sand dollars. This is illegal and can get you into serious trouble. If you can find an early morning when its low tide you can often find some really good shells.

You will quite often see dolphins playing in the early morning surf and they can be quite friendly. And as you can see from the photos you want to be sure to take your digital camera with you and plenty of extra memory cards.

Destin Florida and the surrounding area reminds me of the Florida I first saw almost sixty years ago. It makes me think of all the fun afternoons we spent flying kites and all the sea shells we used to find at sunrise. Destin Florida lets you take a step back in time and enjoy that quieter simpler time when Florida was a much simpler place. We used to play for hours in the sand dunes at St Augustine when I was a child and if you travel to Destin Florida today you can still quite possibly catch just a little bit of that special magic.

I hop you enjoy my Hub Page on Destin Florida and I hope you get to visit Destin Florida real soon. Once you vist and check it out come back and let us know what you think. I hope you have a nice day.
