How Heifer Feeds the World

Heifer International Headquarters is located in Little Rock, Arkansas. If you don't know Heifer, but you are of a charitable heart, learn all you can. Heifer does fund raising like any Charity, but they do things quite different.

Have you ever heard that saying, "Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime?" Heifer International operates along this same philosophy.

When Heifer solicits funds, it is in for agricultural purchases, which go to third-world countries, tribes in poverty, and other parts of the world, where entire villages are starving for lack of food.

Heifer's unique program makes gifts of chickens, ducks, goats, rabbits, heifers, and even the Noah's Ark Menagerie; which is a whole lot of critters. Not only do they provide the livestock and fowl, but they go along, and assist the communities they help, with growing their herds, and becoming a agri-business.

Heifer Ranch, is located in Perryville, Arkansas, about 45 minutes from Little Rock. You could do both the ranch and headquarters in one day, but for the full experience, take a couple of days, stay at the ranch overnight, and then hit the headquarters.

Contact Heifer and request their Catalog, or save postage and paper and view it on-line.

The Link is below. When you come to Arkansas, make sure you come to the Headquarters, and the Ranch. You will realize that goodness does exist in the world, and it is easy to be a part of it.

Zero Water - Zero Toxins facility

The Heifer Parking Lot design is most amazing. Everyone knows cars drip oil, and exhaust juice. They leak, and whine and make nasty little messes everyplace they go.

Part of the Brownfield Revitalization program for Heifer was, when they revitalized the Superfund property, where Heifer Headquarters now sits. Initially, they formed a committee, and did lots of homework and planning to make this facility as green as possible, and really cleaned up this area.

Heifer International Headquarters is called a ZeroWater facility. They recycle ALL their water. Around the property are wetland marshes, created to use and reuse all of the waste and water.

Oil and other toxins from autos cannot escape their encapsulated parking lot system. Whether or not you take the "tour" you can go see the Headquarters grounds, and certainly check out the innovative parking lot design!

The more I read your work on Little Rock Arkansas the more I want to come pay a visit. My daughters have never been to Arkansas, although it was my Dad's hometown, he died young and my daughters never met him. It may be a good time to go back after all these years. I haven't been since I was my youngest daughters age. Oh the years... Peace :)

Heifer International has a sister organisation here in the United Kingdom. It is called Send a Cow - originally it was called Send a Cow to Africa. In the early years they did send cows to Africa, but now they have a breeding programme in Africa. They have also expanded to more than just cows. I think it is a brilliant charity. A family must have training in how to take care of the cow, and must undertake to give the first heifer to another family (the other family also receives training.)

The other places you describe sound wonderful. I'd love to visit Little Rock.
