Hotel Nikolai Residence, Berlin
We were very happy with our stay in Hotel Nikolai Residence, a new hotel in the city centre of Berlin, which only started operating in autumn 2013.
Nikolai Residence locates in the city centre and is in walking distance to almost all the sight-seeing spots that we would like to visit. This is one of the most important criteria for our trip as we want to avoid going up and down with public transportation with our prem as much as possible.
The hotel is in the Nikolaiviertel (Nikolai Quarter) while the Berlin Cathedral, Museum Island and Alexanderplatz are within 10 minutes walk.
During Christmas period, a local Christmas market is reachable in 5 minutes, while the bigger ones in Alexanderplatz is also easy accessible.
Lots of German restaurants are available in the Nikolaiviertel. Do make sure you booked in advance during weekends as we were told that they are always fully booked. Cafes and bakeries are also located within 5 minutes walking distance.
We stayed there with the four of us in a triple room with an extra baby cot. Room size is reasonable and the third bed is in its own little room.
Good quality toiletries and slippers are provided. Baby cot comes with bedding and a duvet. We did brought our own wool blanket for the little one anyway to make her feel more like sleeping at home.
Wifi is a must these days and it works fast even with multiple devices in the same room.
A bottle of complimentary sparkling water is provided upon arrival. A kettle together with coffee/ tea sachets are available in-room.
There are also sweets and cookies available in the resting area in the corridor during our visit, not sure if that's a Christmas special though.

The hotel is very basic in terms of facilities. If you are looking for a gym, spa centre or swimming pool, this is not for you. The hotel does not have a restaurant onsite but you get 10% discount with breakfast at the cafe right outside of the hotel.
I must mention that staff are very friendly and helpful. Service is very personal.
A Family Room with 3 Beds
Simple and Neat Bathroom
I would recommend this hotel for a Berlin city trip for people who wants close approximity in the centre and can miss recreational facilities.
We are really happy with this hotel and it does make a huge difference to one's trip when you got a nice hotel to stay with!
