How to get Seaman’s Book in the Philippines – Requirements for New and Renewal of SIRB
Getting a seaman’s book in the Philippines is so simple and easy. The requirements are listed in this page either you are getting a new seaman’s book or you are renewing it. This important document is also referred as Seaman’s Identification Record Book (SIRB). It is one of the major documents before you can work as a seafarer or overseas in a ship, boat, yacht or any marine vehicle.
It is so important to keep it safe like your passport as this is needed every time you are employed in a ship or on-board. The maritime company will stamp it every time. Your seaman’s book is also required when registering yourself in the POEA and getting working visa or transit visa.
Before you get a seaman’s book, I assume you know how to become a seaman in the Philippines. You need to attend the required training and short course before you can apply for a seaman’s book because the Basic Safety Training certificate is one of the per-requisites.
Seaman’s Book Requirements
Prepare original and photocopies of the following documents:
- Basic Safety Course Certificate (also known as BST or Basic Seaman Training or STCW 95 Certification)
- BST OR (Official Receipt)
- Diploma (High school or College Diploma)
- TOR (Transcript of Records) (High school or College)
- CAV (Certification Authentication and Verification)
- NSO Authenticated Birth Certificate
- NBI Clearance – visa seaman purpose
- 2 pcs Passport-size photos with white background
- P 815 Processing Fee (for 24-hour processing)
- P 1515 for Rush processing (4 hours)
- P 20 for uniform photo capture
After completing the documents listed above, go to the MARINA (Philippine Maritime Industry Authority) office and apply for a seaman’s book. You can also apply online if they have the online service available after I posted this page in case. Marina’s official website is marina.gov.ph. If you want to contact their office, just call 524-9122. The exact address of new Marina office is at 984 Parkview Plaza, Taft Avenue corner Kalaw Street, Manila.
The seaman’s book is just one of the primary requirements for you to become a registered seaman in the POEA and work abroad. As entry level, it is so simple I must say. When registering yourself in the POEA, you will also be required to take medical examination. Just a tip, please make sure you undergo your medical exam only at a clinic and medical center accredited by POEA .
Seaman’s Book Renewal Requirements
To keep your SIRB valid, renew it before its expiration date. The requirements are the same as getting a new one. You just have to bring your old SIRB and proceed.
