The John Hancock Building in Chicago, IL

Not a Cloud in the Sky

There is nothing like seeing a view of Chicago from the John Hancock Observatory designed by the firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The FastPass ticket offered for a bit more took my husband and me to the top within fifteen minutes otherwise it was going to be an hour wait. The twenty mile per hour elevator ride zoomed up to the 94th floor observatory in no time. Walking out onto the observatory floor was one of those WOW moments because you feel like you’re walking among the clouds. Fortunately for us there wasn't a cloud in site so the view was spectacular. When you visit try to spy Navy Pier, Wrigley Field, and other famous landmarks of Chicago.

"Kiss the Sky"

They don’t call Chicago the "windy city" for nothing. I found this out first hand when they let me try my luck as a window washer. It didn't do my hair any favors that's for sure. This little venture was called Kiss the Skyand made for some good laughs. I’m not afraid of heights, but deciding to be a window washer on this mammoth building would not be something I’d be signing up for.

The Real Window Washers

Soapy water splashed on the sidewalk in front of us as we walked along a high rise in Chicago. We looked up and saw these three brave window washers. They were only using ropes attached to the roof holding buckets and what appeared to be brushes to wash the windows. Incredible to see them dangling next to the glass talking to one another as if what they were doing was nothing unusual.

Eat and Shop at the Top

Feeling a bit thirsty or hungry and need to take a load off from site seeing? Well you’re in luck because the Lavazza Expression Cafe where every view is a good one is ready to serve you. My husband enjoyed a Becks beer and I tried a hot latte. Other menu items featured included fresh pastries, cookies, salads, juice, soft drinks, espresso, and grilled panini.

Don't forget to stop at the gift shop to pick up a souvenir or two before heading back to the elevator. All in all this is a great way to spend a few hours in Chicago!
