My Top 5 Travel Apps

Helpful Travel Apps for Your Next Trip -- And they're Free!

Travel Apps on your smartphone whether it's android, Blackberry, or iPhone can really help to smooth your way in an unfamiliar city. Here are my five favorite apps. Best of all, they're free.

Google Maps - It's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It means that you'll never get lost and that you'll always find your way to a hotel, restaurant, or nearest bookstore. And it's so user friendly.  Type in the name or address of what you're looking for and it will find it for you.  I have gotten lost in the middle of the street and have used Google Maps to find my way to more familiar territory.  To download go to google(dot)com/mobile/maps.

Kayak - this is one of if not the most user friendly and reliable meta search engines for travel. If you suddenly find yourself stuck at an airport without a flight due to weather, this app can help find the nearest airport hotel for you at a great price. You can even search and book flights if there is a snafu on your e-tickets. Download at kayak(dot)com/mobile.

Yelp - If you want to find a good Japanese restaurant, the nearest deli, or happy hour and the reviews it got, this app will help you find it. Download at yelp(dot)com/yelpmobile for the iPhone and Blackberry apps. If you have an android phone, it's available at the android market.

Where - Interested in finding the closest movie house and the current movies being shown? In the mood to play pool? This great app will let you know where you can find it. Download at where(dot)com for your iPhone, android, Blackberry, or Windows phone.

TripIt - It can help organize your travel. Sign up, then email all your travel information to plans(at)tripit(dot)com. Tripit will automatically put together your schedule and lay out all your information and it can be accessible through your smartphone. Think about it, your flight information accessible on your phone, your hotel information, accessible on your phone, your car rental information, accessible on your phone, your meeting schedule are all accessible all on your phone. It just makes traveling so much easier. Download apps for your iPhone, Blackberry, and android at tripit(dot)com/uhp/mobile.

Hi, I can honestly say I have found each of the apps worth being part of the list.
