New Orleans Solace
Lay my sadness upon your ancient steps,
A mere second, my life, against your age.
Always I turn to you for solace,
Oh, glorious city of wisdom sage.
My heart can not reverberate within despair
When I gaze upon your vision so fair.
You have stood against the elements of Time,
Rising in triumpth sublime.
No earthly love can match,
The lure of cobble street and cottage thatch.
Shingles, slates, now works of art,
You touch my soul and awaken my joy to start
That not shall I weep nor cry in vain,
Your boundless beauty assauges my pain.
No mortal being can be held at fault
For my soul or heart lost.
I alone choose the road I walk,
And all my phantoms envisioned to stalk.
But if sorrow did not my heart bear down,
Would I less love the beauty abound?
City of curve and crook,
Of beauty and character never foresook.
If the foggy night blinds my eye,
The day's clarity of flawless sky,
Reveals to me your strength and endurance,
I lie willing under your mystical influence.
City of my heart, River of my soul,
You lift me up once more to Life's celebrating flow!
