Millions of children fly alone each year. You can make sure your child is ready for this adventure with a little advance planning. For your child's safety and your own peace of mind, take every precaution to...
1. Choose your destination.
The many destinations Norwegian offers make it an attractive option for families. In designing your cruise vacation, first decide where you want to go. If glaciers and great vistas are your preference, consider an Alaskan cruise. Keep in mind that these may not offer swimming options off-ship since Alaska’s climate is cold. If you and your family want fun in the sun that includes swimming in crystal clear waters, choose a cruise to the Bahamas or Florida. The Bermuda Islands, Caribbean Islands, Mexican Riviera, or Hawaii are also great tropical cruise destinations. If you are interested in fishing boats and rocky shorelines, choose a Canada or New England cruise. Finally, if you want a longer cruise that will allow you to visit faraway places, Norwegian’s European cruises are your best bet.
2. Choose the duration of your cruise.
Your destination will likely affect the amount of time you want to spend on your cruise. You will also want to factor in travel to the departure point. If you live in Florida, getting to your Florida cruise ship will likely not be a problem. If you live in Kansas, you will want to decide how much time to allocate to get to your port of departure and whether you want to fly or drive. OF course, if you choose a European cruise, you will be in for a much longer vacation than other Norwegian options. Norwegian also offers “weekend cruises,” one or two night cruises that offer the fine dining and entertainment of the cruise ship without leaving far from the homeport.
3. Choose activities to suit your tastes.
Finally, choose a Norwegian cruise with activities and excursions that your family will enjoy. Norwegian offers many kids and teen programs to entertain the kids. Teen centers on the various ships offer teen programs and nightclubs. “Recess” areas built for children include play areas, Wii, Playstation, a dance floor, and more. Norwegian cruise ships also offer kids menus and meals, including 24/7 pizza. Excursions that kids and adults alike will enjoy include snorkeling, swimming, exploring islands, and whale watching. Pick the activities that interest you and your family and you are sure to have a fantastic time!
