1 NEW CHANCES AND WHERE TO LIVE IN EUROPE

NEW CHANCES

As Fernand Braudel, famous connaisseur of the Mediterranean commented: Living is exchanging, trading information. This nowadays is more true than ever. And not especially in the Mediterranean area.

The change in the way we work asks for our action and not to sit around. The ways many people work get more flexible all the time. Production areas shift from West to East and in between. There are no agreements on the limits on how fast on how far the changes go, we only know that it probably will not leave to affect you.

For changes in the past we can predict the following advice for where to settle in the next five years. To give a prediction any longer would be not wise as the changes go by the same period they did. This is a personal advice and based on changes in the past and we would like to see a pattern in this. Note it also are regions where the chances are, with the words of Kenichi Ohmae (2006).

-Arhus (Denmark): In the middle of booming Denmark and still see chances in investment. With different banks.

-Berlin and Dresden (Germany) Again after the past century in the heart of Europe. And with new expansion possibilities to the East and investments form the government in buildings. Also sales work for example at callcentra.

-Budapest (Hungary): Again after centuries on the border of the East and West, in economical way it has potential with grounds surrounding and a gateway to New Member states in the European Union as Romania. A lot would also depend on the question of the Hungarian minority in Romania.

-Helsinki (Finland): Nights are long and companies are plenty there is enough green to recreate. Did you apply (See also part 2) yet at Nokia?

-Freiburg (Germany) and Straatsburg (France): Lying on the crossroads between Paris and Berlin. Profits from new investments and the bounding relationship between France and Germany Nice working and living climate, for example seven research institutes and there is also enough investment in a green environment. And with Daimler for example nearby. And Why not apply at the European Union or Parliament?

-Kosice (Slowakija): As a gateway to the east for example the Ukraine here you could live and work and not as hectic yet as Istanbul.

-Malmo and Vaxjo (Sweden): New logistics grow and research for an ecological city make sure you get a comfortable environment to work and live. For example opportunities at IKEA in Sweden.

-Poznan and Warsow (Poland): Poland’s most prosperous city in the past and the nation’s capital again in the heartland of Europe. And a gateway to the East of Poland.

-Triest (Italy): New opportunities as gate to the east. And a fine infrastructure for example the harbor, important also for Slowakija. New expansion possibilities, and with Lloyds as a steady firm.

-Vilnius (Lithuania) and Riga (Latvia): From the Baltic region lying towards the gateway to Europe new expansion possibilities towards the east ea White Russia. And enough space and infrastructure to complete its ambitions.

WHERE TO LIVE IN EUROPE

We can see analyzing the changes that the economical centre is shifting towards the East of Europe (E.g. economical growth figures in Germany, Poland, and the Baltic States). The prediction is also based on the expansion of the European Union and the fact that there are a lot of labour forces and on the economic growth of the last ten years. The Nordic States are relative untouched in their economic growth and the prediction is they will continue to flourish. The trend we can see that the economic centre of Europe is shifting to the North and the East. And the significance of regions in Europe instead of nations is growing with the more complex relationships in the world (Ohmae, 2006).

ASSIGNMENT 1

Where are new chances for you? Where lay your strength and you capacities? And where would you like to live to have the best quality of life for you and your family?

After all that is said and done, quality of life cannot be measured only in statistical figures. Important is how you feel with your life and what you make of it. I hope we contribute to this feeling with this article.

2 APPLY AND PERSONAL BRANDING

APPLY

You can apply on various effective ways. Networking is often the most effective. Do not expect personal advantage in front. See what you want to give. The most effective way for me the last years was through Internet. Flex agencies are seemed to lose their importance. In the next few years there could be a revival despite of personal branding. Other ways employees in the future are found for example are by SMS, Facebook, Linkedin , digital platforms and so on and on.

BRAND

People more and more get to be their own brand. Therefore it is important you do something that fits with you. People like people who are real. If you do something that not fits you this is not real. The people surrounding you automatically sense what is not real. Your brand should be reliable, remarkable and valuable to others. Your value for example could be:

- What is your contribution to the firm? What does the firm need?

- What do you have that other people do not have?

- For example what education do you have?

So please do what you are good at and the difference will show. People are remarkably smart and find out when you do every day and if you do not like it. Do you see an accountant working as and a circus clown? Could be, if he plays his role, but the question in that case remains: For how many years? So please be authentic, you’d better do what you are good at and ignore what you are not good at. For yourself and others then you will get the most respect by doing what you belief in.

ASSIGNMENT 2

Remember what you like to do best and then tell to others what you can offer. You can ask others if they see a difference in the way you behave when you talk about it. For example give a short presentation about yourself. What would drive you the most do the rest of your life?

INSTANCES

In your life you deal with a lot of government agencies. For example the unemployment agency. Do you know any of those ? What is your experience with them? Ignore the horror stories please remember the people who work there are also human.

When you get to the unemployment agency, for example the UWV in Holland, you will be asked questions. Please be polite to any of the possible and absurd questions, however irrelevant to the situation and they might look to you. Answer all their letters. Even if they make the same mistakes over and over, remember, they are doing their jobs and there can be taken responsible.

You might be tempted to react angry. Remember: This will do you no good and this can lead to the government agency will not to be so willing to help you. If for any reason want to come over to your home, please do refuge politely. They are not in the authority to do so. Maybe they will try.

If they ask you the same question for the fifth time do not blame then. They still have to learn to communicate and cooperate. They have not learned that in the past. Please therefore do not blame them. And when they come with the wrong information again please still be patient. After all then they can write a new letter and you may want to start the whole procedure again. This could be in your advantage with a negative decision.

EDUCATION

I would say that the importance of a good education can hardly be underestimated. What do you think yourself? A fine education has the following advantages:

-Often a better salary

-Often a longer life

-The knowledge to deal with changes.

A way to beat a crisis is often a way of education to change for a job. Education in that way you see get a chance to work on your future. No work, then please follow an education. Do what you like and what you do best. At your own individual level. Nobody is perfect. Does not matter what you do, as long as U do it.

ASSIGNMENT 3

Is there an education you would like to follow? And what time does it mean? Can you make small steps of them? Discuss with others how realistic it is to follow an education now.

Did you know that certain agencies pay for you education. If it makes it easier to find a job? And with an education it is easier to find an environment where U can be whom U want to be. Changes do not leave you unmoved is my experience. You do not only think different about yourself, often U feel different about other people. And about working.

CHANGES IN WORK

Differences in modern working will not leave you unattended. Personal branding gets more and more important. You usually are expected to switch from employer every few years. It also depends on what profession you do. See for example the following article.

The new working mentality (Randstad 2010)

The new work is not only home and fill your own hours. There is a mindset change is needed. Most importantly a new balance. For managers is that a balance between control and trust, and employee work-life balance.
Microsoft began five years ago with the introduction of the new works. The company did this in response to a pamphlet from Microsoft executive Bill Gates, which he called for a new working mentality. This pamphlet, entitled The New World of Work, said that people are using new IT technology, their work and private life could combine for example home to work. The rationale was that when people have time and location independent functioning, the company's productivity would rise. Merle Block makes TNO research into the effects of the new works. In its latest figures show that in fact working from home to higher productivity. "But that is mainly because people are working longer at home than in office."
ICT facilities
In order to support flexible working there are good IT facilities required. E-mail this minimum required. Newer applications such as wikis (of which Wikipedia is the best known) can be used from different locations to collaborate on business documents. To support communications between chat systems are needed, which you can see who is online at work and the opportunity is there for a question or idea to share. Security is very important for employers here. If it is not ensured that the company safe from unwanted outsiders, there may be away from home or other flexible places to work.
Microsoft was entering the new work a lot easier, since the company was pioneer in computer technology that enables flexible working. Microsoft can now be seen as one of the forerunners of the new works within the Netherlands and serves as an example for many other companies, who are still at the beginning of the transition process.
Cultural
Consultancies such gendo Wortell and specialize in helping companies make the transition to the new car works. Initially, these offices were set up mainly with the aim to help companies correct the ICT facilities to enter. But it soon became clear that culture, that the time and location independent work entailed, was too ambitious. "The computer skills needed to from a different place on the system to work, most people within ten minutes knees, but then they made the problem: how do we work separately?" Says IT consultant and Arjen Kamphuis Architect, consultant gendo. "The transparency of an online system as a wiki, which anyone can see how much work is done by others, can be quite confronting. People who always pressure did appear suddenly doing less than expected, "says Kamphuis.
In making the transition to the new work is looking great. Good communication is essential. "This is literally a group are giving everybody the chance to have his or her problems and questions addressed to come," said Wietske Eveleens, independent consultant. Courses and workshops can help properly set flex points so as to create a healthy workplace. But in learning a new way of leadership. Eveleens: 'Managers must learn to work on trust with their subordinates. They have not have the same control as if their employees daily physical office presence. "
Rene Van Woezik, and as a consultant ergonomist ArboNed linked to a national occupational health service for advice and support in working conditions and absenteeism, it takes at least half year in advance should start with exploratory courses. "This allows both employees and managers are prepared for the new works. "
Example Function
Microsoft has focused on managers who had to give an example. "If managers show that they can break patterns, other workplaces and times to set for themselves, is an example for their subordinates," said Ineke Hoekman, Microsoft spokeswoman. Also Laura Kluijtmans IT organization Wortell favors this style. "Since the team's new practice of managers take over, they have a role model."
It is important to take into consideration that the transition to the new work requires considerable time. According to Block TNO people should be allowed to get used to the flexible working. "Courses and workshops can help guide the new work, but it also has to do with experience. People must simply find a new balance.

Please remember there is something else to consider. Along with the new way of working everything on you can be found on Internet. So please make sure this stays clean. You may also ask for people who publish to remove everything that is published on you.

ASSIGNMENT 4

Please think of how you can improve your personal branding on Internet. Would there happen to be a computer nearby where you are now or where you go later. My advice is to look it up immediately and make the changes that you think are necessary.

3 ON IDENTITY

IDENTITY

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WHEN YOU FEEL YOU CANNOT CONNECT TO THE WORLD? WHEN YOU CANNOT CONNECT TO ANYONE? ARE YOU GOING TO LET IT REST OR ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE THE POSITIVE THINGS AND USE THEM? THIS COURSE IS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DO THE SECOND OPTION. WITH THIS COURSE WE WOULD LIKE TO REINFORCE THE POWER WHICH IS PRESENT WITHIN EVERY PERSON. WITH PRACTICAL EXAMPLES WE WOULD LIKE TO SHOW HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR OWN IDENTITY. FOR EXAMPLE BY SHOWING WHERE YOUR COMPETENCIES ARE; BY ADDING TO YOUR EXPERIENCE AND SO ON. FIRST TO GET INTO IT, WITHOUT HESITATION; TWO BY PRACTICAL EXERCISES.

ASSIGNMENT 5

A Please introduce yourself shortly in 5 minutes to a neighbor. Tell what you would like to tell and please do not overdo it.

B Please make a diagram with your competencies. If you do not know exactly what to do please ask your tutor. Then ask your neighbor how many of them they recognized before. Please note this is not all there is to you.

ASSIGNMENT 6

After this first foresight we would like to see what the goal in your life is. What for example would you like to hear that people say at your funeral. This may sound serous, and it is. By answering this question people often get a clear picture what they would like to do with their years in life.

GOALS

NOW YOU HAVE A GOAL FOR YOURSELF; MAKE IT PRACTICAL AND STRAIGHT. A HELPFUL TOOL FOR USING THIS IS THE STARR METHOD. So what is the situation, the task you should do, what is the action you did and what is the result? If you for example have to bake a cake, how would you do it? Sometimes it is convenient to break up the task in three different parts and make it a time-limited task. For example write down which groceries you need, buy the groceries and then take them home. Write down and take them home you can do in 5 minutes. It would be more realistic to spend 15 minutes shopping for them. And did you make the cake? Of course this is an example.

ASSIGNMENT 7

Please write down you own goal and make it more convenient to reach it by cutting it in smaller steps. What do you need for your dreams to come true?

QUALITY OF LIFE

OF course THER IS MUCH MORE TO YOU THAN YOURCOMPETENCIES AND YOUR GOALS. WHOM DO YOU SPEND TIME WITH? WHAT CONNECTS YOU TO OTHER PEOPLE? WHAT IS IDENTITY? I for example support the opinion of Elaine Aaron in ‘High Sensitive Persons’, identity is only partly the culture and habits where you grew up with. Also there is part within you that is autonomous and where also lies your strength, apart from you experience and knowledge. It is that part we connect to when everything seems to go wrong, where you cannot refer to in time of need. It can help you, it is responsible for creation, it can inspire you and it can bring joy in what you do. Is it intuition? Is it flow? There seems to be a lot of discussion about it, and here we would like to see what it brings you.

ASSIGNMENT 8

What part of your plans do you feel can come true? From deep within which part you know is coming true. Please note you can do this exercise another time in the future, for example at the place you like the most, where you feel comfortable.

RELIGION

Of course there are different religious traditions, like for example

-Buddhism. You can define it as a way of looking at life. It defines existence as being a flow, where the individual can alter his ego.

-Jewish. Central is the idea of God who makes a holy bound with the people in the World.

-Catholicism. A tradition where Jesus love, who give his life to dedicate to other people, is central.

-Islam. The prophet Mohammed carried out the word of Allah. To be continued until now and further.

Can you relate to one of them? Maybe you can find hope and comfort in them. I think it is worthwhile we can see what relief they bring.

ASSIGMENT 9

Feel free to express what these religions mean for you personally. Can your relate to any of them? Or to any other religion of belief?

Really interesting hub, Davy! I think you do with playing around with the way it's presented a little though. You need to break the text up with some photo's and links and polls or maps just to lessen the impact of so much text which can turn people off. You could probably even turn it into a series of 10 hubs - with one hub devoted to each recommendation. As for the top 10 I'm shocked that no UK cities are on the list (j/k!). Although I'm sure my country could do well in a top 10 worst places to live for the future (we're flat broke and going backwards!). I've always felt I could live in Berlin and still might one day. But I look forward to looking into the other places in more details. Keep it up! Matt

And Matt, thanks very much for you comment. It again gives me a good idea. And most people I personally know form the UK come from Leeds. I heard good stories about Newcastle for example. Again thanks for the feedback,
