Pariyanampetta Bhagavati temple of Kerala
Pariyanampatta Devi Temple
Palakkad, the land of palms, a district in Kerala is blessed with several temples. Pariyanampatta Bhagawathi temple is one of the famous temples among them, which is located in Mangalkunnu, 17 kms away from Ottapalam, South India.
History of the temple
The presiding deity of this temple is Bhagawathi, Goddess of 14 desams (villages). The other upaprathishtas (deities worshipped) here are Sree Ganapathy, Sree Bhairavan and Sree Nagaraja. This Bhagawathi temple is one of the largest Devi Temples of Valluvanad Desam in Palakkad.
According to the legends, about 1400 years ago, one of the members of Pariyanampatta Mana with a helper visited Sree Mookambika temple at Kollur and decided to do Devi bhajan in their entire life. While returning home, on their way, they took some rest beside a river. When he opened the bag he was shocked to find a Thidambu (replica of deity) there. Soon, with the help of the important people there the thidambu was incarnated on the same spot with due respect. The river was later turned to temple pond.
