Playa Blanca Arco Seco

Most visitors to Panama are unaware that Playa Blanca is in an are known as 'Arco Seco' meaning "Dry Arc". Not only has this region been important to tourism in Panama it's also been important to Panamanians, particularly wealthy Panamanians. Arco Seco was named so because of the shape of the coast line - see the Map of Panama below - and the fact it gets a lot less rainfall than pretty much any other place in Panama.

de Arco Seco - The Dry Arc & Playa Blanca

Arco Seco starts at Punta Chame running southwest along the coast through Nueva Gorgona, San Carlos and Rio Hato. The coast then begins it's arc just past Rio Hato around Boca Nueva. The arc continues until the wildlife preserve, Refugio De Vida Silvestre Penon De La Honda, which is on the coast just east of Chitré. Arco Seco is now heading along the Azuero Peninsula coast in a south easterly direction toward and ends around the tip of the peninsula close to the village of Pedasi

Arco Seco is where Panama’s best tropical weather is found. Mild temperatures, plenty of year-round sunshine and yet it's only 20 minutes drive from the Panama rain forest and starts just an hour from Panama City.

Playa Blanca is within Arco Seco along the first stretch of coastline. Getting there is a breeze as the Pan-Am highway takes you right along the Playa Blanca coast.

Great HUB - lovely pictures! My hubby and I stayed at Decameron a few years ago with our kids and then a few months later stayed at Playa Blanca. We preferred Playa Blanca as a more intimate resort which was quiet and as a result a bit more adult oriented. We returned there with friends and had a blast the second time too. If I were going back to Playa Blanca with kids I think I would go to Decameron - just a lot more people and a lot going on. Thanks for the memories!

I voted for Decameron even though I've never been to the one in Panama. I've been to others though and had a great experience. The Playa Blanca Resort does sound interesting though. I will consider it. Thanks for these great tools to plan my Panama Vacation!

Thanks Deb & Paul! I still have a warm spot in my heart for Playa Blanca Resort. My wife and I really had a wonderful time there - twice.

Hey Mark, I have heard a lot about Nikki Beach Playa Blanca and wondered if you have any info about it. If you do know much about it maybe you could add it here or better yet make another hub since so many of your hubs have to do with Panama in general. At this point in my life I think I would take a grass hut on the sand and a case of beer. Man, do I need a break from the pressure of life. This economy is keeping me dreaming of some tropical paradise. Too bad I can't figure out a way to run my business from any Playa Blanca Resort. Now that would be a dream come true.
