Dubai / UAE Poisonous and Venomous Spiders, Snakes and Bugs.
Poisonous snakes, spiders and bugs seen whilst on vacation to Dubai / UAE.
Dubai is considered the ultimate playground of the worlds elite and the rich, but is also the new play ground for poisonous and deadly snakes and spiders. Dubai is a fantastic place for a vacation or holiday. It is out of this world for modern architecture, it's a tropical paradise, but with tropical paradise places, there are the inevitable tropical creatures that can turn an unforgettable vacation, into a painful and deadly nightmare.
Venomous and poisonous snakes that can strike at any time, biting insects that will infect you with killer diseases, and spiders that are only inches from your head whilst you sleep. There are many different venomous and poisonous snakes around, especially during the summer. Below are some of the nastiest creatures that you may find coiled up asleep in your slippers, under the bed or waiting by the car as you begin to enjoy your vacation in Dubai.
Some snakes around Dubai are totally harmless with no venom glands at all, and they have only small teeth, usually used to hold onto their lunch which is mostly mice. The Hooded Malpon snake and the Cat Snake, are only slightly venomous, and bites are usually treated with anti-histamines, and are found near mountains.
There are many very venomous snakes here that will kill a man if treatment is not given quickly.
There are False Horned Vipers, the Arabian Cobra, the Saw Scaled Viper and the deadly Horned Viper, these are the names of the deadliest snakes in the United Arab Emirates ( UAE ) The Arabian Cobra, or Egyptian Cobra as it is also called, is found in every location in the UAE, including Dubai. These beautiful snakes can grow to 2.4 meters ( 8 feet ) in length, and have the distinguishing shaped head that all cobras have, and they are not afraid of man, and will enter into a house without to much concern.
They will slither away if threatened, but won't go far, it will turn and take the standard striking pose, raising its head high, ready to bite. The venom this snake will inject into its prey is neurotoxin, and this venom will begin to attack the nervous system within minutes, this will stop the nerve signals to the lungs and then the heart, which then leads to death.
Symptoms after being bitten are nausea, vomiting, headaches, stomach cramps, dizziness and possibly convulsions. This snake does not spit out venom like some of the cobras can, but if someone is bitten, take them directly to hospital, do not attempt to suck the venom out of a snake bite, it very rarely works and you may put yourself at risk. Many vacations or holidays to Dubai have ended in tragedy because the victims do not seek medical attention after being bitten.
Yes, camels can be dangerous. The humped back ship of the dessert has been known to cause many injuries to tourists who have never ridden one, or have not bee used to being near one.
Many tourists after being to Dubai on vacation come home with cuts, bruises and scratches from falling off a camel. It is just the same as falling off a horse, and they do run fast.
Other tourists have come home with a finger or two missing because camels bite. Their jaws are big enough to fit a grown mans hands in, both hands at once.
If a camel is agitated and you put your hand to its mouth, it may distinctively lash out and bite, it is just a warning, but its the teeth can catch you, it really, really hurts, or losing a finger is a more serious accident.
The Redback Spider
This highly venomous spider was accidentally imported from Australia, its natural habitat. Similar to the world wide spread Black Widow spider, this little beauty has a stripe of red down its back, rather than a spot, and its bite is much worse.
No deaths have been reported in Dubai from Redback spider bites, yet. Concerns have been raised many times over the last few years over the amount of Redback spiders making homes in gardens, near communal pools and actually inside peoples houses, proving that this spider is reproducing in large quantities.
The female is only 1 centimeter long, with the male being half the size, and the stripe on its back can be solid or broken, with more red underneath in an hourglass shape. The female will usually eat the male after mating, and sometimes even during mating, strange but true.
Bites occur when people pass close by the females web, or if one has crept into your shoes or bed. Only 14 deaths have been recorded from this venomous spider. In Australia, the use of anti-venom has greatly reduced the number of deaths. Vacations in Dubai can take a sinister turn if a person is bitten by a spider and does not seek medical attention.
These little creatures ( some grow to 21 centimeters in length ) are now found almost all around the world. They give little nips from their from claws, just like crabs, and they have a small venomous sting in their tails. Dubai, and indeed the whole United Arab Emirates, does have scorpions, but none are thought to be venomous enough to kill a human.
Most scorpion stings can be treated easily and treatments can be bought over the counter at pharmacies. Around the world, the most at risk from scorpion stings are the elderly and the young, so if a person is stung, it is always better to seek medical attention.

The largest sea snakes can grow to about 3 meters ( 9.8 feet ) in length, and come in some amazing colours. Nearly all sea snakes are considered tranquil, and will leave bathers alone most of the time, but like any other animal, if they feel threatened, they will strike.
Although nearly all sea snakes are venomous, there are only a few fatalities reported each year, but all sea snakes should be handled with caution.
Sometimes, a person who has been bitten by a sea snake, may not even notice for a few minutes, and may suffer from little swelling of the bitten area, aching muscles, sweating and vomiting, and there may be sea snake teeth left in the wound.
Again, if a person on vacation is bitten, seek medical attention as some venoms' are highly potent.
