Pokagon State Park
Pokagon State Park is a must for family fun and much needed R&R, located in Angola, Indiana.
Upon our arrival at the Pokagon State Park I noticed the grounds were neatly maintained with lodging facilities that were comparable to that of the Holiday Inn. We decided to take a ride through the park where we were truly enlightened as we spotted several deer and other wildlife animals through the dense forest surrounding us. But, the first thing we really wanted to see was their toboggan run. Off in the distance you could hear children screaming and laughing as we drove up towards the run. There standing in line were adults and children placing their toboggans on the rails of the staircase, sliding their toboggan up the ascending stairwell waiting for their turn to ride the slopes once more. Each toboggan holds up to 4 people, although seeing adult couples in line was not uncommon either.
Along the toboggan run is a building which resembles a cabin and inside one will find a fire in the fireplace and concession stand which sells hot coco, along with other mixed hot beverages, for those that wish to warm their hands and feet.
As for dining the Potawatomi Inn, which sits in the park, has a fairly large dining room with buffet or ala cart dinners of your choosing. The buffet dinners are all you can eat at one low cost. Also on the premises is a gift shop which carries a variety of Indian crafts and gifts.
But one of the best futures are for the shoppers, such as myself. Nearby is a huge outlet center featuring such brand names as Polo Ralph Lauren, Coach, Gap, Tommy Hilfiger and Jockey.
In the summer there is golfing, a private beach that run along the Potawatomi Inn which one can paddle boat and or swim. The Pokagon State Park isn’t as large as your National Parks, nor does it have many outstanding scenic sites to see, but for all year fun and a nice break away from the city, it’s top on my list.
