Finland is known as the land of 1000 lakes. It has not just lakes but lots of forest. About 74% of Finland is covered by forest. Forestry is also one of the most important industry in Finland. Finns go to forest for hunting down deer, moose and elk. If someone want to go for hunting, he has to first get a hunting license and then he has to apply for membership in some hunting clubs. Only then, he is eligible to go for hunting. People also go to forest to pick blue berries, cloudberry or mushrooms. Cloud berries are something special of Finland. You can also buy cloudberry jam from the local supermarket. I love it.

Prepare for trekking in Finnish forest:

During your vacation in Finland, if you are planning to explore inside the forest, be prepared. You need long rubber boots. There is one species of poisons snakes in Finland called black adder. It won't bite you unless you step on it, but be prepared and have a rubber boot until your knees. This also helps in moving around the forest as there is no real road inside most of the forest and to walk through this rough terrain, boots will help.

It is also recommended to wear long sleeve shirts, long trousers and if possible a hat too. This is to protect you from mosquitoes. There are a lots of them in the forest.

You also need to carry some water and some snacks as you may get thirsty or feel hungry on the way, climbing through rocks and passing through wild forest. You may also need a First Aidbox in case of an accident.

If you don't have a local guide, take a Finnish English dictionary and a compass or GPS to show you the way back.

Wish you happy trekking in the Finnish forest.
