Redang Island Beach Resort, Malaysia
Great Snorkelling Trip in Redang
Redang Island - A Great Marine Park to Visit
A trip to Redang Island was a must, recommended a friend who has been there every year. To be specific we made our way to Laguna Redang Island Resort , on Pulau Redang in Malaysia, just off East Coast of Trengganu.
Yes, only my wife and I went on our own, leaving our 3 teenage children behind to take care of themselves (grandparents helped out too), while we basked in the sun, and enjoy each snorkelling trip which was part of the package. Between the two of us, we spent close to $900 for a 4 days 3 nights on the island. That is inclusive of VIP coach from Singapore to Merang Jetty in Trengganu. It also included 3 snorkelling trips, 3 sumptuous meals a day, and of course a room which interestingly has a King-size bed plus 2 single beds. The room can actually sleep 4 people comfortably.
Redang Beach Resort - A Great Vacation with the Fish
Snorkelling was fun (being first timers). We came close to the fishes. The fishes came close to us as we feed them with bread... they actually converge towards us as we dish out the bread when floating in our life vests and snorkelling equipment. Imagine when you dish out a piece of bread, then approach you in hundreds... like pirhanas. Scary but really fun, as they are harmless..... except for the Titan fish which is huge and a bully, one gulp and the piece of bread disappeared into its mouth.
The food was terrific.... a good spread of meats and vegetables, fruits and desserts, local and international cuisines, from very spicy to non-spicy foods. We were well fed, no complaints at all. We were thankful for the snorkelling trips, as it helped burn out the calories and soon it is meal time again.
We started at 10.30pm from Singapore and arrived at Merang Jetty at about 8.00am. Laguna Redang Island Resort had 4 ferries waiting for us at their check in point. There were about 6 check in points for other resorts also, but I was impressed with Laguna Redang's as it was the biggest, and well organised. The only thing we did not like was the waiting.... we had to wait till 9.30am before we could board the first ferry to Laguna Redang Island Resort. When we arrived on the island, we attended a 15 minutes briefing on conservation and the rules on the island. No picking of shells and corals, no fishing... safety, no littering, throwing of cigarette butts only in the designated boxes.... the island is quite free of litter, and clean indeed.
Let me recollect some great memories.... let me leave you with this for a while. Look out for my updates in the comments section below. If you need more info... or some experiences to share, please leave them in the comment section. In the meantime, enjoy some cool pictures taken underwater.

Exposure to the Sun
As a precautionary measure, you want to apply sunscreen lotion on your body and face before going for snorkelling or sun bathing. Excessive exposure to sun's UV ray may have its side effects. Skin cancer is one big concern. Talk to the pharmacist to get advice on what is the best sunscreen lotion to use. Another added precaution is to wear a light T-shirt or wear a swim suit that covers your hands and legs also.
