Review of Hope Land Executive Residence in Bangkok

A nice oasis in a quiet section of Sukhumvit road

Hope Land Executive Residences are actually apartments disguised as hotels. But that doesn't mean you won't receive the attention of a full serviced hotel. Just recently I had the pleasure of staying at Hope Land Executive Residence located on Sukhumvit Soi 46/1 for four days in late September 2010.

At that time I paid 1265 baht with breakfast, which was the low season. But now it's the high season so the price has gone up, but not by much since tourism in Thailand is slow these days. However that doesn't mean you can't find a good deal. I booked through www.agoda.com, a licensed hotel reservation agency based in Bangkok and last I checked the rates the provide for Hope Land is way better than booking through the hotel directly.

First thing I noticed when I arrived at Hope Land was that it was in a very quiet neighborhood. Though it is on a popular road called Sukhumvit road most of the points of interest are in the lower numbered streets of Sukhumvit.

However all is not lost. Hope Land is just a 5 minute walk to the nearest BTS station called Phra Khanong. Matter of fact you can see the Sky Train glide on its elevated train tracks if your room in on the 4th floor in a room facing Sukhumvit road. So you won't be far at all from any of Bangkok's posh departments stores since the Sky Train is just a straight shot along Sukhumvit Road.

And I always advise visitors to stay in a Bangkok hotels near BTS stations, such as this Hope Land property.

The room size is quite spacious, around 25 - 28 square meters. What I particularly like is the bathroom. As you can see from my video review there is a separate shower stall with excellent pressure and a large bath tub. There is a decent sized desk with free Wi-Fi connection that I never had a problem with and the speed was decent. But that may be because there wasn't too many guests in the hotel to compete against for bandwidth. Closet space is big and there's an electronic safe inside big enough to store a notebook computer.

The beds and pillow were really comfortable to me. Even though only twin beds were available at the time I didn't have any problem at all with the size. The air conditioning was good and quiet and kept me chilled enough for a good nights rest.

As a result of being in such a quiet location Hope Land certainly does not have a lot of guests. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they received large tour groups ever so often. During my 4 day stay I noticed very few guests. I can tell usually tell how many people are staying at any given hotel when I'm partaking in a hotel's breakfast buffet (which was included in my room rate at Hope Land). During my 4 day stay I went in at different hours. Each time I could easily count the amount of guests eating on one hand. A few were the same faces.

But there are those who don't like overcrowded hotels anyways. I'm one of them. I only care about how clean and comfortable the rooms are. And my room on the 4th floor was indeed clean and comfortable, even though the section of the hotel I was staying in is considered the older section. The newer section is towards the back of the building.

Old or new, it didn't matter to me because I was already quite satisfied with my room.

A video review I made of Hope Land Executive Residence

If you are interested in booking a room here I recommend www.agoda.com. I use them often because they offer a best rate guarantee and I earn rewards points that are good for discounts on future hotel bookings.

Conclusion

I think Hope Land Executive Residence is a really good choice for short term and long term stay. But I give it 3 out of 5 stars. 3 stars is quite good already and here are my reasons why it's not higher.

Service is nice and polite and staff can communicate in English. But it's not overly pampering which most 4 star hotels and above have. Which is fine by me since I personally don't like being pampered. Though I am aware that there are people who like that. The swimming pool is nice and I notice there's someone checking the water quality. However, there is no pool side bar. And the fitness center is not the greatest, though adequate. It's just that the flooring in the room is marble, with no padding and not so ideal for a good workout, especially if you are into muscle training.

There is no spa and massage services, no one to help plan with touring and sightseeing. Which again is no problem for me, but I know many travelers who look for these particular types of services. And that's really the reason why I give them 3 stars. But for me personally I really like Hope Land and wouldn't mind staying there again.

So if you're like me who only needs a very clean place to stay and close to transportation then I really recommend staying here at Hope Land Executive Residence.
