Rome is the city of love.
Rome is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. There are so many beautiful sights that one could fall in love with the city quite easily. It is named Roma because it is the Italian word for love "amor" spelled backwards. There is so much to do that you need to spend at least a week there to really get a feel for the city. I've never met anyone that has been to Rome that didn't want to go back. This is one of those places I would love to live. Here are a few sights that are a "must see" while in Rome.
The Trevi fountain is exquisite. There is an old tale that states that there are three ways to toss your coins into the fountain. Toss one coin and you will come back to Roma. Toss two coins and you will find the love of you life in Roma. Toss three coins and you'll get a divorce. However you choose to toss those coins you will surely have fun doing it.
The Colosseum is absolutely magnificent. True the Colosseum has seen better days. It has been in ruins due to earthquakes. Also, people have vandalized it by stealing stones and metals used to construct it. Still the Colosseum is a beautiful structure that is rich with history. The Colosseum was used for gladiator battles, theater, hunting animal, battle re-enactments, executions and many other purposes. You will find yourself in awe as you tour this wonderful sight.
The Vatican and the Sistine Chapel are my favorite sights to see. The Vatican is full of Catholic history and art. It is so beautiful. The Sistine Chapel will truly have you amazed. Be prepared that you aren't allowed to take pictures inside. You will have to rely on your memory to document this experience. Savor every moment. It is fine to walk circles around the chapel. Spend as much time as you want. Absorb this masterpiece into your memory bank. This will resinate with you for years to come.
There are many more sights to see while in Rome. These were just a few. If you are planning on taking a trip to Rome, do some research. Taking an organized tour can get you to see many of the best sights. If you are planning to do things on your own, try making a list of places that interest you. Try to arrange tickets for the sights that interest you before you go. I've done both an organized tour and explored on my own. Both approaches can have pros and cons. The organized tours may not get you to see all the sights you desire to see. If exploring on your own you could have transportation difficulties. This is why you should be prepared. I've had no problems exploring on my own because I took the time to do the research. If you are not familiar with Rome, try to get a city map and know where you are going. This could be the difference between you having the time of your life or getting lost in a strange land.
