Selby Gardens - Sarasota, Florida
The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens has over 180,000 visitors a year many of them locals. It contains almost 13 acres of gardens, an elegant mansion, museum, and waterfront views. There are eight greenhouses with more than 20,000 plants including the Tropical Display House.
We spent a week on nearby Longboat Key and visited the Selby Gardens in Sarasota, Florida. It was a nice break from the beach. The pictures in this hub were all taken at Selby Gardens. I am not into all the tropical plants but I had to admit that they were stunning.
The cafes on the property serve local coffee and tea. The gardens are loaded with plants. Almost every tree has an orchid or bromeliad or fern growing in it. There is a koi pond, butterfly garden, hibiscus garden, banyan grove, baywalk, tropical fruit garden, tidal lagoon, and much more. At the store you can buy some really beautiful plants. It took about three hours for us to tour the gardens and greenhouse. We did not see all 5000 orchids in that time. Highly recommend this attraction. Cost was $34 for two adults.
