Snow Covered Austin, Texas

Serious Snow

It Began With Sleet

The long awaited annual snowfall in the Texas Hill Country occurred last evening! It was later than usual this year, arriving on the third day of February,

As the evening began, sleet moved in. By 10 pm the roads were ice covered and slippery. It was a dangerous evening to venture onto the roadways! Countless automobiles were rendered inoperable because of the precarious road conditions. Emergency vehicles flashed their bright lights all over the city as motorists encountered road barriers and other inanimate objects on their slippery drive home.

A Blanket of Snow

Good Morning Snow

I awoke during the night and noticed how bright it seemed outside. Looking out the window, the ground was covered with a beautiful layer of snow. Everything was exceptionally quiet. There was a declared hush as people slept and the snow fell.

The sun beamed through the window this morning. It didn't seem possible that there could be snow on the ground with such a bright morning. Then I remembered our temperatures in the tens and the ice the evening before and knew it would be awhile before the winter wonderland would melt.

Area schools are closed today. Many businesses have closed their doors on this Friday due to the travel conditions. There is a layer of ice under the snow which makes road travel dangerous until the roadways warm. Tonight a refreeze of the melted snow is expected, causing another travel hazard to local residents.

The local news station aired a clip of a local school with a large hill on their property, covered with parents and their children sliding in the snow. Facebook is busy with plenty of recent posts of snow angels and snowmen! How much fun!

Enjoying It All

I enjoyed two cups of tea this morning. A leisurely morning is always a welcome relief from the daily grind. The snow is beginning to melt. The water is dripping off of the rooftops and the streets are clearing. It is time to start my day. Have a good one!

Thanks Pamela. Yes I am looking forward to Spring. The older I get, the more I like the warmer weather. I love the Jacksonville, Florida area. We used to visit cousins and the beach there when I was a kid. Great beaches.

Peggy, I bet you are really looking forward to spring. I feel fortunate to live in Jacksonville, Florida as I grew up in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio and I know how awful snow and cold weather can be sure don't miss it. I liked your pictures and and I enjoyed your hub.
