Monuments and Parks in Veliky Novgorod, Russia
A City of Beautiful Parks and Statutes
Saturday Aug 13, 2011 – Veliky Novgorod
In a previous Hub in this series I wrote about some of the numerous monuments and war memorials in Veliky Novgorod.
However, these are not the only outdoor sculptures and monuments in this city. Set among the beautiful and extensive gardens in the many parks in this city are numerous sculptures and monuments honoring the city's history and cultural heritage.
While most deal with historical figures, like Peter the Great and Alexander Nevskiy, or events like the Millennium monument, there is the sculpture of the composer Rachmaninoff and the fountain sculpture of the mythical Veliky Novgorod merchant Sadko and the mermaid he fell in love with and married.
For now I am basically sharing the pictures but for some, such as the merchant Sadko or the nineteenth century Millennium monument, there are some good stories for future Hubs once I have had a chance to research them.
