Summer in Chatel
All about Chatel in summer
Chatel is a picturesque alpine resort in the Haute Savoie region of France. It is right on the Franco/Swiss border and only 80km from Geneva.
Historically, Chatel has been famous as a winter ski destination. However, over recent years, the resort has become a lot more popular as a summer destination. When one considers the amount of activites on offer, it is easy to see why!
In summer, the snow melts, the flowers come out, the valley echoes to the sound of a thousand cow bells and Chatel village becomes swamped with beautiful flowers (it has 3 flowers in the national "village fleuri" scheme).
Visitors to the village over the summer months can take advantage of great facilities such as an outdoor swimming pool, a "bob luge" track, devil kart and the "fantasticable" - a zip wire which is strung across the valley and sends you flying high above the mountains at up to 80 mph!
One of the other great things about Chatel in summer, is the amount of beautiful places to visit within a short drive. The historic towns of Annecy and Yvoire are only a short drive away, there are impressive glaciers to visit in Chamonix and Lac Leman has a number of sandy beaches within a short drive.
For those searching for adrenaline sports, there is plenty to keep them amused - mountain biking, white water rafting, kayaking - you name it, you can do it.
With such a wide range of activities, Chatel really does appeal to a wide range of holidaymakers. Companies such as White-Peak offer a wide selection of reasonably priced chalet accommodation in excellent locations throughout the village.
