The Best Cayman Island Family Vacation

Updated on April 30, 2009

The Cayman Islands are a perfect vacation spot for families. The Islands are made up of three islands—Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac. Each offers exciting activities to families with kids of any age.

Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman offers many luxury resorts, and is a regular favorite with cruise vacationers. Families enjoy Stingray City, where you can play and swim with stingrays. Many guides also offer snorkeling and tours around the area. Boatswain’s Beach is also popular for its swimming, snorkeling, and educational presentations about sharks, birds, turtles, and fish. You and your family can watch the sharks feed, and feed the turtles yourselves.

The Cayman Islands Butterfly Farm is also a popular destination. Here, you can view rare butterflies from all over the world and take a guided tour that explains how caterpillars become butterflies, along with other interesting butterfly facts. Butterflies are attracted to bright colors, so wear your brightest clothing!

A Kids Sea Camp takes place in the summer on the Grand Cayman island. The camp caters to kids ages 4-15 with treasure hunts, snorkeling, submarine rides, turtle farm tours, and movies and pizza nights. Many vacation packages include the Kids Sea Camp, making it easy for you to provide your kids with weeks of entertainment.

Little Cayman

Little Cayman island is more secluded than its two sister islands, and offers miles of flat biking trails to explore the island. Several outstanding dive spots offer clear water and wildlife, including fish, coral, and sponges. Bloody Bay Wall and Jackson point are among the most popular with guests. Also check out the impressive tarpon in Tarpon Lake, and the Blossom Village Museum, which educates visitors on the history of the island.

Cayman Brac

Cayman Brac offers breathtaking scenery, dominated by large bluffs. Like Little Cayman, Cayman Brac has many popular dive spots and crystal-clear waters. Reef Divers offer diving tours and can show you and your family the best diving places on the island. Visitors especially enjoy diving on the wreck of the Cayman Agressor IV, which sunk in September 1996. Canons and a wheelhouse tower are among the most interesting aspects of the ship visible to divers.

In July, check out Family Week on Cayman Brac, complete with island tours, hiking, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Some resorts offer vacation packages that center around Family Week. Boat tours are also available on the island, and provide your family with a relaxing way to experience all the island’s serene beauty.
