Family Vacation to Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada offers excitement to whoever sets foot on the Vegas Strip. There's so much to do and see, and only so much time to do it in.

This hub outlines a few of my favorite Las Vegas attractions. In 2008, I took a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. I was twenty years old, and this trip left me with many fond memories. I went along with my parents who were visiting on business, and we stayed at the Mirage Hotel. I had been to Vegas once before, at age fourteen (and stayed at the Stratosphere), but the second trip was more memorable due to my older age, my newfound ability to try out the slot machines, and the fact that I had been there prior and was excited to see more that the city had to offer.

The Vegas Strip is is an exciting place that will capture the attention of all ages. The main attractions we visited during our trip are outlined in this hub. If you are planning a trip to Vegas in the future, be sure to check out some of these places.

Explore the Vegas Strip

While in Vegas, be prepared to do a lot of walking! The streets will get congested, and it may feel like a herd of elephants is crossing the street at each corner, when the traffic stops and the pedestrians have their turn. Relax, and take in the sights.

  • Grab a bite to eat.
  • Do some shopping.
  • See some of Vegas's entertainment.
  • Explore nearby hotels, such as the Venetian or Caesars Palace. Each hotel has different things to offer.

If you get weary, hop on the reliable, climate-controlled Monorail! Cruise along the Las Vegas Strip and go from one end of the strip to the other, all in less than 15 minutes.

Visit Caesars Palace

Visit Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino and embrace the beauty in the spectacular architectural structures inside and outside of the hotel.

Since the hotel was constructed in 1966, Caesars Palace has become one of the world's most popular destination resorts.

Modernized design techniques have been implemented into Caesars Palace, and they have stayed current throughout the years.

The statue to the right is said to be the first emperor of Rome, Augustus Caesar, the nephew of Roman general and dictator, Julius Caesar.

Caesars Palace offers:

  • The Forum Shops: People come just to see the Forum. Some of the most famous restaurants in the world are located in this venue. It's not just a mall but a destination spot.
  • A Rome theme exists at Caesars. The store fronts were designed to offer a realistic ancient Rome feel to them.
  • Look up! The ceilings above have been painted to resemble the sky.
  • A beautiful set of winding stairs connects the various levels of Caesars Palace.

Hello JamaGenee- I kind of do believe it - it probably feels like any city to native Las Vegas residents and becomes 'just the strip', but to outsiders it is quite the experience. I agree- although Vegas is notorious for gambling and partying, that is not all it's good for. The entertainment value is huge. I know I missed a lot of great things on the Strip during our visit that I'd love to see, maybe will on a future visit. Great point you make with not spending on a room at a major hotel, great tip. We chose the Mirage because our business convention was being hosted there. Turned out they had the awesome animal exhibits. Thanks for your words and advice related to vacationing in Vegas!

I lived in Las Vegas several times (a little over a year total) and can attest the Strip AND Fremont Street ARE surreal, to put it mildly. One does NOT have to be a gambler to partake of the treasure trove of treats available. Of course, living there allows one the opportunity to explore and enjoy many delights tourists pressed for time never know about. And odd as it may sound, many residents never go near the Strip or Fremont unless friends or relatives come to town.

One suggestion I'd make, having been there as a tourist myself - to give a friend the Grand Tour - unless you only want your luggage to have a nice place to stay while you're there, don't waste your money on a room at a major hotel. Unless you're a real stick-in-the-mud, you'll hardly ever see your room except to shower and grab a few hours sleep. ;D

Hi F: Yes there are soo many hotels in Vegas - some insanely expensive- and others more moderately priced. Unfortunately I did not get to see the Hoover Dam. I didn't venture off the strip much due to time constraints. Hopefully I will get to see it someday though, I would love to!

Interesting; and there's a lot of available hotel accommodations to suit every budget. Did you also go see the Hoover Dam? It's not too far away.

Hi Winsome - Referring to Prasetio's comment - I think we all think of Vegas as the city that never sleeps - but apparently Google doesn't think so, lol.. Good reference to Alaska, great similarity! And it is great you don't feel the gambling need - I don't either, it's merely a waste of lots of money - but it is fun to try out the slots just to say that you did - as long as you don't get sucked in! It's true - just recently I head that the blue sky in my picture above has subliminal messaging in it that says "spend money" every time someone looks upwards. I guess that does not shock me, makes sense for Vegas!!! Nonetheless, Vegas is an awesome place!!! Hope you get to check it out again sometime!!! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Emily, I think Vegas is the town where nobody can sleep because it is SOOOOO bright. People walking down the strip at midnight have something in common with Alaska and Norway where you can see the sun 24 hours a day during the summer.

I am grateful that I don't feel the need to gamble because that leaves so many free things to do in the Hotels and around them. The food is inexpensive and the rates are usually modest because they want you to frequent their gambling rooms.

Thanks for the tour--I haven't been in a long time so maybe it will make a fun weekend. =:)

Prasetio- I, too, thought of Vegas as the city that never sleeps, but when doing some research for this hub, Google implied that New York City was! I think they both probably are, though. :) I hope you do visit Vegas someday, as it is quite an amazing place with so many different attractions and beautiful things to do and see! Thanks for commenting and your votes!

Hi Kalmiya!! Vegas is an awesome place and what is very helpful is that the shows in Vegas usually stay for a few years. 2012 is the last year for the Phantom of the Opera, and the Beatles LOVE, and both were in Vegas back in 2008, in total it'll be 5 years in a row performing in Vegas. Definitely see Vegas if you get the opportunity! Thanks for commenting and reading!

I love this hub! We went to Vegas on our honeymoon; stayed at the Stratosphere! Wow, it was awesome!

I do think a mention of Freemont Street would be a nice touch. Its really the only older section for tourists.

Voted up!

Hey emilybee. I haven't yet went to Las Vegas; personally I feel that Vegas is not an exciting and too important place to spend vacations with my family but through reading this I was wrong! I come to know for good and interesting places like Caesars Palace and Secret Garden to visit in Vegas. The Hub contain too expressive words, I like the way you write!

Awesome, awesome, awesome, Ardie!!! That was my intent of this hub. I want people to realize it is not just a crazy place for partying, but that there are things to do that are family friendly. I would like to go back and do the same things I did before, again. They were a lot of fun and now that I'm an adult, I still don't care much for gambling and all the big nightlife. The animals were so cute!! I hope you and your family make it to Vegas and have a fabulous time!!!! Thanks for commenting and reading.

My husband has been begging me to go to Vegas and I just really didnt see how I could leave my kids to take the trip (I didnt think there would be anything interesting for them to do). Now I see I was wrong! They can go with us and we can make it a family vacation to Vegas baby! Thanks for this wonderful Hub :)

Woodwardphotos, I don't think you would feel out place. The Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat is so beautiful. I bet you would like to see all the exquisite animals and the gorgeous city lights. All the hotels are beautiful with their astounding architecture. I'm not a city person, but I loved the excitement that this city has to offer. Thank you for your comment!

This is a really Great Hub! I've always wanted to go to Vegas but I wouldn't know what to do there. I would feel really out of place, I'm not a big gambler. I would like to see all the fancy hotels and lights.
