Viewing mountains on top of a mountain...Climbing Mt. Sto. Tomas located at Tuba, Benguet.
I am not a professional mountain climber and never really tried mountain climbing ever since. I went to Mt. Sto. Tomas out of duty, and since I didn't have a choice, At least, I have a choice to enjoy the view, the coldness and the experience. More than one hour from Baguio City, going to the foot of Mt. Sto. Tomas via Four Wheel Drive is like climbing a mountain already.
Before going to this activity, my officemate discussed first our itinerary.
Day 1 - Manila to Baguio City
I asked why we need to stay at Baguio when we were leaving Manila too early and will definitely reach Baguio with still much time to go to Mt. Sto. Tomas? My officemate said Day 1 is rest time. Climbing Mt. Sto. Tomas is something we cannot take lightly, that we needed to gather much needed strength to climb the Mountain.
Day 2 - Baguio City to Mt. Sto. Tomas, Tuba, Benguet, 6:00 am
We need to travel as soon as the sun shines, it is not adviseable to go to the mountain in the afternoon or when the sun is beginning to set.
We should return to Baguio City by 12:00 noon. After taking our lunch my officemates took their afternoon nap, then woke up when the sun was beginning to set.
Day 3 - Baguio to Manila
Baguio City, Mountain Province
Baguio, and Mt. Sto. Tomas Tuba, Benguet
Baguio is the most popular province of CAR or Cordillera Administrative Regions. It is in fact the summer capital of the Philippines. It is known as the coldest place in the Philippines simply because of its very high location. The Mt. Sto. Tomas of Tuba, Benguet is a lot higher. One hour away from Baguio City, going to the foot of the Mountain is considered an adventure already. It was comfortable via Four wheel drive which can stand the stiff terrain. An expert driver portrays a vital role because not all drivers are good enough for the Zigzag road. For everybody's safety we need to consider the skills of the driver that will bring us there.
Photos Taken from the Vehicle
It's already a sightseeing from the four wheel drive window, while the vehicle was travelling up to the Mt. Sto. Tomas. It was getting colder and colder as we were getting nearer to our destination. The view of nature was so overwhelming that I was encouraged to climb wondering hom much more beauty will I see if I reached a much higher part of the mountain. Well I did not really expect to reach the peak...
At the Foot of Mt. Sto. Tomas
I was startled to see the foot of Mt. Sto. Tomas, when we arrived, there was a heavy duty truck blocking the way. It was clearing the. scattered rocks in all sizes so that some vehicle can pass freely. We need to walk 5 kilometers more to reach the peak.
The road looks narrow but passable by a vehicle with a size of a four wheel drive and an owner type heavy duty vehicle. But we chose to walk, riding a car going up is like taking a risk. the road is narrow and rough, going up, at your left is a cliff or very deep cliff that God only knows if you are going to survive if In case you fall with the vehicle.
When I saw the rocky mountain, I felt like I just want to stay in the car or just be left behind and wait for them hahaha....but I know I need to go and I will get bored waiting. I told my friend Juliet to go ahead, and I will just follow the trail. I decided to climb at my own pace for two reasons: first so I can't slow down the group, and second so I won't need to pressure myself catching up with them....I had not visited the gym for years so for sure I had a very poor stamina, plus I am on a heavy side.

Viewing Mountains on Top of the Mountains
I took Photos on my way up, honestly enjoying the view gave me more reasons to take my time climbing....it was cold but I was perspiring. I felt thirsty too but drinking will make me feel like I want to pee. So I was thinking that I should not stop walking, and let me perspire more so that the tendency to pee will be lessened.
The views are well, breath-takingly beautiful, I only need to see one angel and I will believe I am closer to heaven. It's like I am witnessing a painting that came to a reality. Looks like on top of the world, as below you see mountains and fog or clouds that seemed to gather above those mountains.
Skies are more beautiful, the different shades of blue was so refreshing to the eyes. The wind and sweet smell of nature, I feel like I wanted to lie down and rest, but I know I need to continue walking.
For the first time, I saw how the expensive broccoli was being planted. It was beautifully arranged at the stiff side of the mountain, and could have been mistaken for lettuce. It was harvest time too when we visited the place
Our Purpose Why We Visited the Mountain
We went there for a mission, just like other communication companies, we too have installed communication equipment at the area and we went there to check on it. Near our tower are buildings owned by another government agency.
Since we did not really come there to hike, we decided to go down right away after checking the dog house and the communication equipment. I thought going down from the mountain is easier...but then again it is not something that a first time climber can take lightly. I needed to control my steps slowly and maintain my balance or I will find myself reaching the foot of the mountain by rolling, hahaha that was just a joke.
We went to one sari-sari store to rest and for refreshment. The same store was also selling broccoli, and for fifty pesos, my friend bought a plastic bag full of broccoli... So cheap and definitely fresher than what we saw in the supermarket.
I was so overwhelmed to see baskets and boxes of broccoli, it was rare and expensive in manila.
Mt. Sto. Tomas is located at Tuba, Benguet, from Baguio City we went to the place via Marcos Highway. For a more detailed climbing infromation, I have shared a link about Mt.Sto. tomas by an expert mountaineer.
