WOW Philippines!!! (Amazing Beaches)

Ms. Charlene Gonzalez during 1994 Miss Universe Pageant

The Philippines is an archipelago and therefore contains a large number of scattered islands. In the 1994 Miss Universe Pageant, our very own Ms. Charlene Gonzalez, wittily answered the question “How many islands do you have here in the Philippines?” with another question, “High tide or Low tide?” and then proceeded “During high tide we have 7,107 islands and during low tide we have 7,108”. Although I think 7,108 was just her wild guess because there were no precise counts of it yet. What’s official is that the Philippines have 7,107 islands, and just for that fact you can expect to see a lot of amazing beaches in here. Below are just five of them:

Boracay in Panay

Boracay Island is one of the famous destinations in the Philippines attracting thousands of tourists every now and then. It is a beautiful small island surrounded by coral reefs. The best part of Boracay is its white sand beach, also known as the Long Beach. Some experienced travelers claim it to be the "Finest Beach of all Asia". The water is shallow; sand is finer and brighter than any most beaches in the archipelago.

El Nido in Palawan

El Nido is a top destination for island hopping and marine and wildlife reserve. Scuba diving is also a popular activity here with over 30 dive sites for varying levels and skills, from taking the plunge and learning to dive for the first time, to perfecting your expertise and advancing your qualifications.

El Nido has over 50 beaches to discover, also find enchanting lagoons with tranquil turquoise-green water, caves that can take you to hidden beaches, and a very diverse variety of wildlife. The limestone cliffs of El Nido were naturally carved out of extensive and thick layers of coralline deposits. They formed 250 million years ago in the shallow sea covering the area that North Vietnam and South China now occupy. These layers slowly rose from the sea as a result of the collision of India and mainland China about 60 million years ago.

Siargao in Surigao del Norte

Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island situated 800 kilometers southeast of Manila. Siargao Island is not only known for its beautiful beaches but also for its fantastic waves. Now it is also named as “Cloud Nine” because of the waves that made it into one of the top surfing waves in the world.

Mactan Island in Cebu

Mactan Island is not only known for its historical significance but also for its beautiful beaches and diving sites. They call it as “The Diving Mecca of the South”. It has more than a dozen beach resorts with complete diving facilities.

Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte

Pagudpud is considered the largest island in the Philippines. Pagudpud Beach has powdery white sand and its water is as blue as the sky. Pagudpud is an excellent place to go if u wants a place that is clean and green.

Have you been to Bohol, Charia? In my opinion, the beaches there rival, if not surpass, the beaches in Boracay. :) And it's not so "commercialized" if you know what I mean. :)

What I know in Bohol was the famous Chocolate Hills. Anywayz I’ll definitely checked on it and maybe include it in our next getaway. Yes you are right about that, Boracay being commercialized, but some preferred it to be that way so that they can both enjoy the glamour of the city and the beauty of the beach. On a personal note I prefer non-commercialized one.

While you're in Bohol, stop by Bohol Bee Farm. I love their all-organic squash muffins, camote bread, pesto spread... Mmm... I'm beginning to drool. Hehe. :D

Um ok I'll try =) Would you like me to buy you some? On the second though you just live nearby, if I'm not mistaken. =)

Bohol is just a few minutes' boat ride away from Cebu. :) A friend of mine went there recently and she brought me a box of squash muffins. I could have eaten all 24 pieces myself! But I shared it, of course. Haha! :P

Oh that's so cool, few minutes away from a beautiful spot. I have to take a plane before I could go there. Cebu from what I've heard is a beautiful place as well.

Cebu is more "developed" than Bohol. More shopping malls, more traffic (but not as much as Manila), more buildings. Although there are great beach resorts in the North and Southern tips of Cebu. Moalboal is one of them. :) I regretted not bringing a snorkel when we went there last year, the corals and sea flora/fauna were breathtaking. :)

I see teacher Susan is enticing you to visit Bohol. She had a romantic getaway there so that must have been part of the reason why she loved that place. LOL heheheheeh Anyhow, it is true, Bohol is also a great place to be. There are indeed many beautiful beaches in the Philippines and thank you for sharing them here. :-)

So that’s why. As I’ve known she even had a separate site for her Bohol adventure. Hmmm..now I know! Thanks for sharing, teacher Michelle! =) Thank you for the visit as well! =)

I agree with Susan Ng. The beaches of Panglao, Bohol now give Boracay a tough competition. Tourists abound in the province primarily because of its sandy white beaches and good diving sites. Nice hub.
