I think it is just plain ridiculous, but unfortunately it has become a necessary requirement in today's society. We need to be sure to teach our children that life is too precious to risk skipping a security checkpoint.
if they are patting down adults , then children should be patted down too. do people think a terrorist won't use a child as a human bomb,?
It's neccesary. If someone gives your child a toy, unbeknowst to you, that happens to be a bomb, well, there you go. You're a bad parent for allowing your child to interact with a stranger without your knowledge, of course. If that weapon makes it's way to somewhere it can do damage, either in the terminal or on the plane, now you can see where patdowns, while ugly and seemingly unneeded for kids, are important. You're right, kids might not know what a bomb even is. That makes them a better target for a terrorist.
It's down right idiotic, I understand that we need to follow precautions, but a scan would be enough rather than a pat down.
The sad truth that any malicious person with half a brain could think 'hey I bet they wouldn't search a kid!'
They may not even tell the kid. Haven't you heard stories of parents using their kids to smuggle drugs around?
It's sad, but children can and do get exploited rather easily.
I don't think the TSA should be able to pat down children. As long as the metal detector doesn't go off they should not be touched. The should use a wand if they want to search children.
Safety first I guess. I never had to fly in america so I dont really know how bad it is there. People have to understand that anyone could get checked and if you don't like it then don't fly.
I'm gonna get BLASTED for this one... it's ok...I'll take the heat cause I come from a Military Family.
Why is this even an issue? Because we believe we have rights. Why does the US get bashed Worldwide? Because we believe we are better than everybody else (arrogance) and lastly - why do our Soldiers - Men *and* Women - catch beatdowns in other Countries?
Simple. We still believe in the Honour System.
Anybody remember Vietnam? I'm not old enough - but - I'm old enough to remember the effects it had on our Soldiers (including those in my Family). Let's Fast Forward to today.
It's 2011, and other Countries who believe stronger than we do, (they) will use Guerrilla tactics - including Bombs on their *own* children. Good Parent, Bad Parent doesn't matter - You honestly think that someone wouldn't walk up to a child and give them *something* and watch the aftermath without smiling and looking for the next target?
I say it like this - I have the Right to Protect My Family - this also includes me watching this pat-down to ensure my Kids are not having more than their Rights Violated.
...but then - I'm always "that other guy"
There are evil people who have no problems hurting children. I've heard of children being forced to be "drug mules" for dealers. That said, I believe we need to protect our children from invasive situations that are scary. Are wands effective? I don't know. But extra precautions should be in place for children to feel safe.

I happen to think that children come with their own nature and the best thing to do to raise happy empowered children is to allow them to be who they are born to be instead of forcing them to conform to our ideas of what ideal people should be? Any thoughts? Are you a molder or an allower?

A child is baptised, receives first communion, and is confirmed before they even fully understand what religion is, and what consequences it will have on their life.Would it be better to wait until a person is... say sixteen or eighteen years old, then asking them which religion they'd like to be...

It's going to be hard for me to write objectively about this, but I'll try.I've recently seen a documentary about the child witches in Nigeria. I think it's just about the most terrifying and horrendous thing I've ever seen. The diagnosis and labelling of a child as a witch is pretty simple.If...

When do you think a parent should allow their children to make their own conscious decisions?

When very young, about 4 years old, I was taught to say the prayer 'Jesus tender Shepherd hear me' every night before sleeping. In the Summer I was to say it before getting into bed. In the Winter, with no heating in the attic bedroom and ice forming on the windows, it was OK to get into bed first,...

Yesterday a terrorist committed an unspeakable act of terror against women and young girls by detonating himself via suicide vest at a Manchester concert. The wounded figures are still climbing as is the death toll, but it's over 100 in total. Yet no women's organization has said a...
