People will give you a lot of great tourist spots to visit but for me, the best thing to do is find a little cafe in a non-touristy area, sit at a table and have a fresh croissant, orange juice, and espresso and just soak it in. Soak in the people, the atmosphere, everything. Hands down, my favorite thing to do in Paris.

If you have a lot of time take public buses around the city - can get busy but much cheaper than tourist buses. If you're short of time use the Metro or RER.
I would recommend all the places AfricaResource did plus Invalides, Palais de Luxembourg, Trocadero, Buttes Chaumont (nice park for a wander), Parc Monceau, Republique, Bastille, La Defense (if you like modern stuff), Opera and Place Vendome (if you have an unlimited credit card!!).
The best thing to do is just to wander and you will suddenly come across beautiful views or take Metro lines 2 or 6 which are partially overground. If you like trains take a trip on a TGV to somewhere - they travel at around 200mph!

One of my favorite museums in Paris is the Musee Rodin.
An unusual trip is to the underground catacombs.  Very strange and interesting!

But yes, sitting in a cafe or just wandering around are some of the best things to do in Paris...

Honestly? Tourist stuff. Some people may say its tacky, but I'll always remember climbing the Eiffel Tower at night and watching it light up, seeing the amazing art at the Louvre, taking a walk in the rain (when people say the city is most beautiful), watching to sun set over the river....aaah. But I also think that Paris is Paris, and anything you see or do will be incredible smile

There's lots of great things to do in Paris. You can check my hubs. I have a few on Paris. I feel happy just roaming the streets but I will always remember fondly my visit to the Louvre, Champs Elysees and Eiffel Tower.
