   What are the best places for an out-of-state tourist to visit in Michigan?
   
   "Best" simply means your personal best. Unique local attractions, classic and famous spots to stop at, most beautiful, etc. Where would you take a visiting friend?

   Off the top of my head I would say Traverse City, White Fish Point, Grand Haven, Saugatuck and Mackinac Island. However, if you only have time to go to one of them, I would personally recommend Mackinac Island. It's history and beauty make for a memorable vacation.

   I live in the northwest lower peninsula of Michigan.  There are many beautiful places to visit in our State.  But you've asked for the best.  I've traveled all over the State.  The Upper Peninsula has many wonderful places, such as Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Porcupine Mountains. 
   
   Okay, that's my pitch for the Upper Peninsula, and it really is a great place to visit.  But my personal favorite is right close to home.  The northwest lower peninsula has some opportunities that are very unique.  I might suggest my two hubs that deal with this subject, but that's all I'll say about that. 
   
   First is the city of Traverse City, Michigan.  This is the shopping, medical and economic center for all areas north of Grand Rapids.  The City features the National Cherry Festival in July, the Traverse City Film Festival later in July (a huge attraction put on by local resident and film producer, Michael More).  the downtown is one of the best in the nation.  Shops, restaurants, the State Theatre along with its new sidekick theatre, the Bijou by the Bay. The Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan is only a couple of blocks from downtown and provides boating, swimming, fishing and all other water sports. 
   
   The second place in northwest lower Michigan that I would highly recommend is Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.  In 2011, ABC's Good Morning America show held a contest to find the most beautiful place in America.  After weeks of featuring various spots around the country, the TV audience voted for the winner.  Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore won.  Sleeping Bear Dunes is over 50,000 acres of forest, lakes, Lake Michigan lakeshore, Islands and sand dunes.  Traverse City is only half an hour away and the small town of Glen Arbor is right in the middle of the National Lakeshore. Glen Arbor is a delightful town which welcomes visitors. 
   
   There you have it.  My recommendations for places to visit in Michigan for an out-of-state tourist.
