The highest cable car in the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc area is the "Telepheric Aiguille du Midi". It has 2 section. The first between Chamonix town (1050) and Plan d'Aiguille (2310). The second section ends just beneath the very summit of the Aiguille du Midi (3842m). The summit (reachable by elevator) has a terace with a path-breaking view down to the valley and - of course - to the Northern slopes of the Mont Blanc.
The cable car is open (almost) year round (some down-time possible due to annual tests etc.). A ride with this cable car is possible the climax for most sight-seeing visitors of the Chamonix Valley.
For a certain period this cable car with its top station at about 3790m was also the highest cable car of Europe. Today, the highest cable car of Europe is to be found in Zermatt (Kleinmatterhorn cable car with a top station at about 3820m).
