Your mean you lived in the US on a visa or on a green card? I think you mean green card. It is very unlikely that they will let you return on that green card, unless your job was related to a company in the US. Leaving the US for more than 6 months is a great risk on a green card. If you need to leave for longer than that you should request a permit.
What do you mean by your family still lives in the US? Your wife? Your parents, your sisters? You will probably have to reapply for a green card and your family, depending again whom you mean by that will have to agree that you will be supported by them. It is also very likely that they will question you more detailed.
I cannot tell you anything about your chances to get a green card again. And I am not an attorney, just someone living in the US with a green card and have some knowledge about a couple of things in regards to it. So, this is not a legal advice or whatsoever - just information to the best of my knowledge. You can go to the Homeland Security website and do some research as well.
