I divide my time between New York City and Bangkok and I have to say both cities are remarkably "same same but different" (anyone living in Thailand will understand that line).
I have to admit though Thai culture is more accepting of religion and individual lifestyle choices. So you can see people express their inner feelings out in the open without anyone judging.
I definitely do enjoy the challenges of living in Thailand. Every little thing that I easily do in New York can be a challenge in Bangkok for instance taking the public bus. It was a bit of a learning curve but now I give myself a pat on the back whenever I get to my destination.
