Stone Crab claws called floaters happen when the crab molts. After a stone crab molts it needs about a week to harden it's shell and fill in the meat. If you leave the crab long enough it will be full of firm meat. I can usually tell which crab claws will be floaters by their feel and color. I leave them in the trap for a week or so and then I'm rewarded with nice crab meat. I don't think floaters are that good I feed them to my cats. Hope this helps.
