Now For A Barcelona Experience With A Twist

So here you are, about to embark on the holiday of a lifetime; you’re visiting one of the most beautiful cities in the world – Barcelona.

Now I don’t know about you, but I personally hate doing all the “touristy” things that people do when they visit a new city. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely want to see all the sites, but I always like to do it differently to everyone else; I want to experience the city rather than just see it.

Although there are so many wonderful places to see in Barcelona; the famous museums, the authentic neighbourhoods showcasing works by famous architects such as Gaudí and Ildefons Cerdà, the famous parks, the markets and even the beautiful, sandy Mediterranean beaches, you might be a little more adventurous and want to do something a little out of the ordinary to tell all your friends back home.

Now if you’re like me and want a taste of Barcelona like few others have had, here are 5 totally unique and exciting things you can do in Barcelona that will set you apart from all the other tourists and will give you the experience of a lifetime.

1. Cook & Taste

Cook & Taste is a wonderful little company that offers cooking classes for visitors in Barcelona. It is located on Paradis Street in the heart of this historical city.

Here you will have the opportunity to learn how to cook authentic Spanish dishes, such as paella, tapas, gazpacho and much more, in a beautiful Spanish kitchen with the help of a professional chef.

You can even choose to begin your course with a personalised tour of the famous Bogueria Market where you will get tips from your guide on how to pick the perfect ingredients for your gastronomical creations.

Once you have created your culinary masterpiece you will be able to enjoy it in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Classes are offered in English, French or Spanish and you can choose from a half-day (3.5 hour) cooking class, or if you prefer, you can organise a private cooking event. Another great thing about this cooking adventure is that children are also welcome so this can be an experience for the whole family, or something special just for two.

All ingredients and equipment are provided so all you have to do is show up. Just make sure that you book your place well in advance as certain seasons are fully booked. Prices for a half-day course are approximately 60€ per person (children pay less), and an extra 12€ (approx.) per person if you wish to include a tour of Bogueria Market.

If you love to cook, or even if you can’t boil an egg, this is an experience you won’t forget and along with all your photos of Barcelona you’ll also have a cooking repertoire to remember your holiday by.

2. Business Yachtclub Barcelona

The second instalment of this adventure menu is a visit to Business Yachtclub Barcelona. As the name implies, this is actually a yacht club, however they provide a tourist experience you will never forget.

Located at Marina Port Vell, they offer sailing lessons on a J80 sailing boat. Together with their expert skippers you will be whisked away into the azure waters and taught all aspects of coastal sailing.

The course takes about three hours and is available for the entire family. The price is approximately 79€ per person.

And if you’re not that crazy about learning how to sail, just relax and enjoy a three hour cruise with a view of Barcelona unlike any.

For bookings and information visit their website – www.business-yachtclub.com.

3. SphereMania Barcelona

If you’re a bit of a thrill seeker and would like to have some crazy fun whilst in Barcelona why not visit SphereMania Barcelona, conveniently located in Parc del Forum, a multi-purpose leisure site where you can spend a relaxing day outdoors, get snorkeling lessons or even catch a music festival.

However the main event is Sphereing; which means that you’ll be harnessed securely in a giant inflatable ball and rolled down a hill at great speed!

There are two options on offer, Harness Sphereing and Aqua Sphereing and is fun for the entire family, although there are age / height restrictions.

This is an extreme sport and although it’s loads of fun it is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Bookings are required and it will cost you about 60€ for two. Find out more on their website, http://lifestylebarcelona.com/action-activities/sphere-mania/10393

4. Barcelona Photography Courses

This one is for the artist in you and my personal favourite. Whether you’re an amateur photographer or just someone in love with art and beauty, this “secret” treat in Barcelona is just for you!

Not only will you learn how to take professional photographs, you will also do so on location in two of the most beautiful, must-see places in Barcelona.

The first location on offer is Ciudad Vella (translated as the “Old City”), home to some of the most interesting sites in Barcelona, including the famous Las Ramblas, the Gothic Neighbourhood, the Roman ruins and many of the oldest churches and cathedrals.

The second location available is Park Güell. Situated in El Carmel hill in the Gracia district, Park Güell is a garden complex designed by the famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and has some of the most beautiful views of the City of Barcelona.

You must bring along your own camera and bookings are essential. The course will cost you about 100€ (this price includes a booking discount). You can find out more on their website, www.barcelonaphotographycourses.com.

5. Hot-Air Ballooning

The final instalment on our list is a hot-air balloon ride over Catalonia. From a birds eye view you will be able to admire the Montseny Natural Park region, Barcelona itself and the Mediterranean Sea.

You have the option between a Private / VIP balloon ride (for that special couple celebrating an anniversary or honeymoon), a Family balloon ride to be enjoyed by the entire family, or a Group balloon ride for those travelling in large groups.

As an added service, the company will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the launch site. Prices are between 140€ to 280€ per person depending on your choice of package.

For information and bookings check out their website, www.ballooning.es.

Just a word of advice to anyone who has never been in a hot-air balloon before… take a hat with you or something to protect your head and neck, because something no-one tells you is that it gets really hot up there from the flames that keep the balloon in the air!

So there you have it; five incredible things to do in Barcelona that will not only take your breath away but will leave you richer, wiser and more fulfilled than before you got there.

Get yourself ready and be prepared to be dazzled in this ancient city of art, history and music.

Barcelona is definitely a city of dreams come true!
