You can check out my hubs such as the one on flying. It is also useful to learn a few phrases of the local language.

You don't need to check out my hubs. When traveling in a poorer country, and thinking about renting a car, hire a local driver with a car for the day or week. You will be giving money to the local economy and most likely someone who could really use it rather than a big corp. Also, the driver will know his/her way around and you don't have to worry about police, insurance etc.

Spend less time complaining and more time watching others complain, entertainment for those occasional long exasperating, and unavoidable, delays and hiccups.
